How Can I Get My Old Gamertag Back?

So I let my friend's brother borrow my Xbox one for a month or so, and he ended up changing my gamertag to something he liked better. So I asked him to change it back to what it was, and he did, or at least he says he did, but I finally got my Xbox back
and apparently there was the 12 character limit that was introduced recently or however long ago. My og gamertag was 14 characters, just under the old 15 character limit.

So basically that means that what he actually ended up changing it back to is NOT my og gamertag, and is instead some crappy knockoff version of it so that it would fit.

I can't find any way to contact support and ask them if there's anything they can do other than by calling them which isn't possible for me right now. So instead of running in circles with the automated assistant thing, I decided posting here was my only
option.

Thanks for coming to the Xbox Forums. As of the
new update, you will not be able to change a gamer tag back to over 12 characters long. There would be no way of getting the old one back. Even support are unable to change a gamer tag. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience.

As there is nothing we can do here on the forums. I will be locking this thread.

Try xbox support. Youll have to remember email and all that good stuff.

You can change it back but it will cost $9.99.

You should be able to change it back by going into your profile and selecting customize profile->click on your gammer tag-> enter in your new one and if its not taken by too many people you should be able to get it back unfortunately you will have to pay
10 dollars to change it because you only get one free name change

i suggest if you lie it see if you can use it or some variation with numbers of course. It was officially changes so change it back and hopefully it wasn't taken by someone else if it is not original chances are it will most likely be taken
