How can I get my gamer tag back from being reported?

In the past, a forced Gamertag change gave users the opportunity to change the offending Gamertag free of charge. Unfortunately, this gesture was prone to abuse, and many people simply chose new, equally offensive Gamertags. As a result, the Gamertag enforcement
process changed. A forced Gamertag change now automatically assigns a new Gamertag to the account, much in the same way a system-generated Gamertag is provided when you first sign up for Xbox Live.

I can assure you the tag this account received was automatically generated. In this case, the word “Joey” refers to a juvenile kangaroo and not a person.

If a player is unhappy with the assigned Gamertag and wishes to change it, he or she may purchase a new Gamertag through the standard Gamertag change process.

As per the ToU/CoC you agreed to when you started your account if you receive a forced name change you are given a random generated tag for free.If you want to change it to a personal one you can do so at any time but will have to pay the fee.

You used to get the chance to pick a tag if you got a fnc but that was abused so the rules were changed a couple of years ago.

 

You won't be getting that tag back. From the enforcement site:

Inappropriate Gamertag and Real Name content includes, but is not limited to:

• Profane words or phrases
• Topics or content of a sexual nature
• Hate speech
• Controversial religious topics
• Notorious people or organizations
• Sensitive current or historical events
• Any "sound-alike" or "lookalike" words, phrases, or puns that reference these topics
  
  

You're welcome to keep the name provided to you, as that does not violate the code of conduct. If you'd like to choose a different name, you'll have to pay the associated fee.
