How can i get 5.1 sound in my xbox360 Elite Stingray

OK I manually set the Xb1 display to manual, changed to 5.1 and get no center channel, change to DTS surround and get no sound at all.

My connections are

PS3, PS4, Xbox360, cable box, Xb1 to tv by HDMI

TV optical out to receiver, optical out set to RAW

Everything works 5.1 fine with the receiver but the Xbox1. What am I missing? please help

I am having the same issue. When I occasionally turn my Xbox One of to let it get some rest my audio resets to the default 5.1. Only reason I noticed was because how drastically different 5.1 sounds vs. DTS 7.1.

February 2015- This is kind of crazy but it worked for me. I was not getting 5.1 out of TV through my XBO but I WAS getting 5.1 from movies and games.

In the XBO menu I switched the audio to "Stereo" from 5.1/7.1 and now I'm actually getting 5.1 sound. Makes no sense but give it a shot.

First Question:

I own a Razer Chimaera 5.1 and I am very happy with it, it's both has quality audio and is comfortable to wear.The voice can get muzzled if the game audio is set too high, which you have to correct with the ingame audio settings as the headset only has buttons
for voice and general volume.



Second Question:

With an actual surround sound set 5.1/7.1 are the amount of speakers+subwoofer which it consists of. With surround sound headsets 5.1/7.1 are percieved sound directions+subwoofer. I would recommend using only 5.1 as that is how audio of Xbox 360 games are
designed to use.

I had a similar problem on my Xbox. While I cannot directly say it's the same thing, you can be the judge. The difference between your two device (Apple and Xbox) would be your Xbox is decoding by your choice into 5.1. This means that when you hit Netflix
episodes which are not transmitting in 5.1, they are getting null data on those channels. This means they do not transmit sound. On a forum dealing with this very topic, one person suggested that the output on the Xbox be handled in "Stereo" and allow your
receiver to encode the output in a 5.1 method.

My solution has been different however.

My receiver has an "All Channel Stereo" button. When watching shows where the 5.1 is not an option, I simply turn on this feature for those sounds and receive the equivalent to 2.0 audio that is loud and crystal clear.

The short answer: Your Xbox is doing what you have requested, but that means that when 2.1 sound gets transmitted, the last speakers are not given any audio. It's still "technically" transmitting 5.1. There's just nothing on the channel.

It's best to remember that the receiver is meant to decode this information. You are like me, you thought the Xbox should handle it, and it should... if we plugged it directly into a speaker system. We fronted the money for good audio systems, we should
let them do that job.
