How can I fix the ping problem in online games?

I totally get how frustrating this kind of issue is, especially when everything worked just fine a week ago. The fact that YouTube and other apps are running normally, and the problem only happens in games like Dead by Daylight, CS2, and Valorant, but not LoL or Roblox, gives us some helpful clues.

Let’s go through a few things you can try. I’ll keep it simple.

Are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet? If you’re on Wi-Fi, connection drops can mess with games that use strict real-time servers, especially those with anti-cheat like Valorant. If possible, try using a wired Ethernet connection, or at least switch to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network instead of 2.4 GHz.

Also, close background apps. Some background apps might be hogging your network and messing with your ping.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager

Check the Network column under the Processes tab

Close any app that’s using data while you’re gaming (like cloud sync apps, browsers, or launchers)

Turn off any third-party antivirus or firewall. Games like CS2 and Dead by Daylight rely on stable connections and may disconnect if your security software interferes. Temporarily disable things like Avast, Norton, or any “game booster” tools to see if the problem clears up.

Reset your network settings. This helps if something’s wrong with your DNS or socket connections.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator

Type each line below, one at a time, and press Enter after each:

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset

Then restart your PC.

Try to update your network driver

Right-click the Start menu, select Device Manager

Expand Network adapters

Right-click your main network device, then click Update driver

You can also check for Windows updates in Settings > Windows Update

Test for ping spikes or packet loss. You can use tools like WinMTR or PingPlotter to check your connection stability.

If the issue goes away after restarting the game, that could also suggest it’s tied to how the game connects to servers the first time. There is very little you can do about this, the problem isn't speed it's latency. Latency is the delay of data between you and you and the other person. This can be measured as a Ping. A ping is the time it takes in milliseconds for your data to be sent
back to you. When I tested my ping from Birmingham in the UK to Sydney Australia, the ping was 316ms, a good ping for online gaming is anything below 100ms. I'm afraid there is no way to fix this.

My PING came up as 133. Obviously this is high and explains the **** connections i get. How can I fix this? How do I get a good PING for FPS?

I have an open NAT with great ping and still No Games Found, I know this can't be right. How can this be Fixed.
