How Can I Download a game I paid for?

Yesterday I purchased the X|S version of Grand Theft Auto V - it was a bundle of both the story mode and the online game. The online game downloaded, but the story mode did not. Clicking on it (to download) in the bundle does nothing. No error message, just unresponsive.

One thing that I think might be relevant: on an older Xbox, many years ago, I had GTA-V on a physical disk. That game still appears in my library and I'm suspicious that that is why the "new" version won't download.

Regardless, I reached out to xbox.com/help, went through their "virtual agent," got a callback from a rep and after I explained the situation, we were disconnected. I waited for a callback and got none, so I repeated the process, got to a human, explained the situation, and was disconnected. So, I repeated the process again with the same result - get to a human, explain the situation, get disconnected. On my fourth attempt, I learned that I had reached the maximum number of callbacks I'm allotted for any given day, so I'll have to wait until "the next business day" before I can try again.

So, just to recap, I'm paying $14.99 for the privilege of being able to give Xbox $20 for a game that they don't have to give me; and when I call to get resolution, they can just hang up on me and not call me back, and that works fine because they only have to do it 3 times a day. What a wonderful example of customer service.

So . . . obviously, I'm a chump, just a stupid peasant customer who should be grateful for all Xbox has done for me. Still, I would like to download the game I paid for. Plan B would be a refund, but I think that's virtually impossible by design.

Can anyone provide any advice on how I might find resolution here?

It is important to make sure you have purchased the correct item for your console, Rockstar has many versions of the game listed on the Microsoft Store, you mention you purchased the Xbox Series S/X edition, but you also say you have an older console.

Keep in mind that the Xbox Series S/X version can only be used on Xbox Series consoles, not Xbox One consoles.

If you are sure you purchased the correct version for your console,

Try to perform a cache clear with the following steps.

Remove your account from the console

1. Press and hold the Power button on the front of your Xbox until the console turns off.

2. Unplug the power cord from the back of your Xbox.

3. Wait a minute, and then plug the power cord back in.

4. Press the Power button on your Xbox to turn it back on.

5. Your cache should be clear at this point.

Log back in with the account.

That was an "older Xbox" - my current console is an X version.

That said, I tried your suggestion and was able to download the game after creating a new account. So, thank you for your timely response. However, it's the Xbox One version according to the download, but the thumbnail for the game says X|S - so I don't really know what I'm getting just yet - it's downloading now. I guess I may have traded one bait-and-switch for another. Might not care if it'll just play.

Just a heads up, to let you know that the Xbox Series X|S version of GTA V, the artwork for the game is Grand Theft Auto Online, but it still includes Story Mode if you purchased the bundle.
