    How can I change the age restrictions for my child's Xbox Account?


    My son and I like to play games together and it has proven extremely difficult to do so with certain titles that deem him too young to play. I updated his content restrictions on his Xbox as well as via my Microsoft account but there are still games that
    won't allow him to play online, like DCUO or Skate 3 to name a couple. I understand that these games have an age rating older my sons age, but if I grant him permission to play these games (I manage all of his installs and screen time) then he should be able
    to play them.

    The only workaround I could come up with was to create a brand new unrestricted account for him, but this causes a lot of frustration and confusion when managing his friends lists and save files/loss of progression between accounts... it sucks. The family
    share feature Microsoft offers is great and we make full use of it, and love it... but this aspect is a real pain point for us. There must be a simple solution here.

    How can I change the age restrictions for my child's Xbox Account?

    I'm not sure about DCUO, but the age restrictions on Skate are set by the developers and there is no way around it other than, as you stated, creating a new, unrestricted account.

    No. The age of an account cannot be changed once it's been created.

    Is there a way to turn a child account into an adult account

    While you can change the preferences in family settings to control a childs privacy and such, some games or their publishers have their own restrictions based on the account age. That age is deterined by the age of the Xbox account. Your family preferences will not overide restrictions set by the game publishers or the service providers (Xbox). For example, I think it is EA that restricts some online content to 13yrs and older. That cannot be changed via family preferences.

    Support is correct. It's not possible to change the age of an account once it has been created and change an adult account to a child account. In order to be able to use restrictions for him, you would have to create a brand new, child account for him and
    your account would be the parent account. Nothing can be transferred between accounts so he would have to start over.
    Are you sure you can't change the age of an account? I just went into my account on live.com, and went under personal info. I changed my age to the age of my child. When I hit "save", it prompted me that I first had to revoke consent for my child accounts.
    I didn't continue, but it appears that if I do revoke consent, then I will have successfully changed my age. Then I'd have my account with a child's age, and I could create a new account and make my old account a child of the new account...

    Alright done that, I also power cycled the Xbox after doing so. It still gives me the error "a child account can't change these settings" as outlined above

    As additional info I can link my social accounts to my Xbox account and we now have the same Xbox settings. Something to do with age possibly? I have changed his age restrictions to any age already without success.
