I'd suggest trying to sign in online to make sure you've got it typed in right. It is case sensitive and needs to match EXACTLY.

I've done tech support and this is a very common error.

Sorry but whoever you spoke to has given you the wrong imformation,you were issued a forced name change as your previous gamertag violated the code of conduct,if you want to change the one you were given then you will have to pay,you will not get another
free name change.

 

Please explain to me why all these people can have weed in their names as well as stuff like
[Mod Removed]. But [Mod Removed] is such a big deal? Everyone has them, they aren't profanity

 

They're not allowed to things like that in their gamertags. It just means that either nobody has filed a complaint on them or the enforcement team just hasn't issued a change.

 

Put it to you this way, if you can't say it on network daytime TV or in a game rated E, it's probably against the code of conduct. Your previous name definitely couldn't be said in either of those places. Those other gamers you mentioned are also in violation
of the rules - feel free to report those gamertags and the enforcement team will take a look and apply forced name changes as appropriate.

For your case, your gamertag was deemed unacceptable, and your gamertag was changed. You can change it to an appropriate new tag, but you will have to pay the standard fee ($10 in the US, not sure elsewhere) in order to do so. Instructions on changing
