How can I backup (NOT transfer or make default install) games to an external HDD

    Questions:
    1. I just saved my console settings to an external HDD but can't see an option to backup my 400GB worth of games (which took about 4 days to download over my ADSL connection) - is it possible to BACKUP
      games to external HDD?
    2. Also I saw there was an option in the storage menu to make your console visible on your LAN, as I have TWO X1Xs is it possible to use this option so I can download a game ONCE over my ADSL connection then allow my other X1X to
COPY the game via LAN from my other console OR will it
      TRANSFER
the game instead then delete from the source console?
    3. If this is not possible where is the best place to post this as a feature request to MS?

    Thanks

    :)

The OS stays on the internal HDD. You can set the Xbox One to install games to the external storage device by default. You can also move all your stuff over to the external drive.

PS4 also has mandatory installs, X1 can also play games before they are fully installed. The two consoles are practically identical with this. Related to this, the only difference is that PS4 allows to swap the internal HDD, but not external HDDs, while
Xbox won't allow switching the internal, but allows for externals.

    .

Key word here being, both consoles require you to install the games and can't be ran from disc only. Both consoles also have a 500gb HDD by default.

    Hi

The most recent update added the feature of network transfer to Xbox One consoles that might help you in addition to this you can also move or copy a game to a suitable eternal hard drive to transfer it this way.

No this can NOT be used for backup since it "transfers" meaning MOVE content from source to target.

Since everything at source is DELETED you do NOT have a backup.

    Corrupted cloud save

    Thanks for the reply.

Is there a "how-to" you can point me to that gives instructions for how to make save game backups to an external drive? I have googled but only found info on moving game installs.

Of course you can try it. But maybe you try at first to use your external hdd for nstalling the game on it. If this doesn't work make the backup.

    External Mechanical Hard Drive

I thank you so much for a quick response. I think the best way if i am going to make a backup of my Owned Digital Games is Re-download them from Microsoft Store into a New Empty USB HDD. Because when i tried turning on my Series X and disconnected the external USB HDD prior, the games that are supposed to be in my External USB HDD are now under ready to install

    list.

Loading games off external Hard drive doesn't work (Xbox One)

In the storage setup, try selecting the external HDD as your default storage. If this does not work, try installing the game again on the external hard disk, with the default setting being set at the time of installation.
