How 'bout that Backwards Compatibility

Not like we haven't been waiting 6 months now for the titles announced in November at the launch of this whole program.

What a terrible execution of an idea. Why have there been 150+ titles noone cares about, but you can't release the six titles you announced over half a year ao?

Dark Souls is a laggy mess, capping out at about 15 FPS overall. Skate 3 hasn't had an update on it's release progress since announced as upcoming in November.

PS4 has GTA San Andreas, and Max Payne. Xbox One has Galaga and Frogger.

Xbox One: Backward Compatibility page, which details how the program works and which games are currently available. As Daft mentioned, as long as that title is backward compatible, your DLC will work.

 

Have some healthy skepticism. Publishers don't want to give something for free when they can try to resell something or bundle it as a bonus with another title that they're trying to sell. For example, I don't think you're going to see Red Dead Redemption
backwards compatible until RDR2 is announced and released. They they offer the backwards compatible game as a bonus. This will help sales on Xbox One.

Why did I say publishers don't want to give away something for free? It's not free, you already paid for the games. That's right. But the freedom to reuse a game title on another platform and reduce your expenditure is what they want to avoid. If they can
instead turn this into another purchase then that's how they will do it. But sometimes its cheaper to just release a game like Borderlands which is practically obsolete in the face of Borderlands 2, which everyone thinks is the better game. Maybe they'll get
a few more sales for doing nothing at all.

 

If you bought the Xbox One purely for backwards compatibility than you're doing it wrong, I'm sorry (why wouldn't you just stick with the 360?).

Also for people like myself BC has been a welcomed surprise, yes I agree that majority of the titles have been lacklustre, but it's definitely not why I have the console. At least I will be able to play the 360 GwG titles on the Xbox One and hope I'll see
some of my favourite titles in the future (looking at you Ninja Gaiden 2).

Have to agree,anyone who bought an xbox one for backwards compatibility is doing it wrong.

GTA:SA & Max Payne are both og xbox/PS2 games,why would you want to have them on the xbox one?

 

BC needs Shadowrun already. Deus Ex is an awesome BC game.

I have played through Rainbow Six:Vegas and Vegas 2 and I have several titles that I have not played yet one of which is Fallout 3. There are some good titles on the BC list just maybe not what the OP wants to play. I have to agree with the others BC should
be a distant reason for owning the One. If you wanted to play 360 games you should have kept a 360 available.

 

@Daft - Haha, you could definitely say that's my attitude, I've recently stepped up my game and started harassing Team Ninja on Twitter, but they aren't giving me the time of day, haha. I really do hope it will be BC in the future!

 

Don't blame you.Quality game that most people didn't bother with due to the fact they were scared of the difficulty.

NG on the original xbox is still in my top 10 fave games list.

 

Ninja Gaiden 2 is the one with the shiny rubber suit? I swear that's the only thing I notice in gameplay videos is the reflected light bloom effect on his thighs.

What makes like NG2 so difficult? Is it critical timing? Because that could be an issue running through an emulator.

 

^Haha, I guess that's one way of describing his suit, I never imagined it to be rubber myself, but his thighs definitely do reflect light so who knows, haha.

Critical timing is part of it, but you do get to the stage where you know the enemies movements so can pre-empt most attacks. The difficulty really comes from a combination of a lot of things, but if frame rates were dropping and there was input lag, yeah
you're probably going to have a bad time on the harder difficulties.

I doubt I would be playing through master ninja (hardest difficulty) again anyway, I just wanted to casually play, record some clips, maybe stream it. Ninja Gaiden Black played fine through the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility so I don't think it would
be too much of an issue, but you do raise a good point.

Because if I'm being honest, my X1 has become nothing more than a glorified 360. As this gen progresses, the X1's shortcomings are becoming more apparent. Add to that, the list of exclusives is becoming less with each passing title now most are coming
out on the PC. The only reason I haven't sold my X1 is in the hope Mass Effect 2 & 3 and Skyrim find their way onto the BC list. Other than the controller, which i do find superior the PS4's, I'm struggling to think of many redeeming features.

I've been a gold subscriber for 8 or 9 years now and come September, it will be the first time I haven't renewed in all that time. Sad state of affairs as i want desperately to like the console, but nothing has changed much since the 360 began going downhill.
The lack of real exclusives (just the usual over saturated titles, GoW, Halo and Forza) makes me sad. Like i said above, the new exclusives can be got for the PC.
