HORRIBLE install times

Discus and support HORRIBLE install times in XBoX Games and Apps to solve the problem; Goto settings -> network -> advanced settings. Then choose DNS settings -> manual. Set your primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 then your secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4... Discussion in 'XBoX Games and Apps' started by THE StarKillr, Aug 28, 2015.

  1. HORRIBLE install times


    Goto settings -> network -> advanced settings.

    Then choose DNS settings -> manual. Set your primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 then your secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4 (these are google's servers).

    Then goto mac address and choose clear (it will restart your xbox). After it reboots check your download speed under bandwidth usage in the network settings to see if the problem has been fixed.

    After the download finishes be sure to go back to your DNS settings and select automatic to switch your DNS back to the default.

    This seems to be an issue with certain ISPs rerouting you to their personal network to download marketplace content. But using the google DNS you wont be rerouted and will instead connect directly to the microsoft servers. You need to change your DNS settings
    back at the end because certain providers dont count content towards your bandwidth limits when going through their personal CDN, however when you are using google's DNS it will count toward your bandwidth limit. So its not a good idea to use the google DNS
    longer than you need to.

    This worked for me, hopefully it will help others.

    Yeah I'm still not able to download things. Hopefully this is fixed by Tuesday so I can download Mad Max :/. I'm located in CT if that helps with your investigation

  3. @Saint Gavin im also in CT. If its not working by tuesday try the DNS trick. For me the issue was on comcast's end and that fixed it.

    Very strange I am also in CT! I called my ISP and had them open ports to Xbox and Microsoft I'm guessing, and then had them reset my Gateway (I have xfinity) and that seemed to work!....for an afternoon. Then it went right back to what it was doing. I have
    done the DNS settings and even the NAT settings, nothing has worked. Once they opened the ports and reset my gateway it worked at least for a little while and downloaded at blinding speed, and I was able to finally finish the download, but it's back to what
    it was doing again. Even with already purchased content. Frustrating. I'm having a tech come out to swap out my gateway and check again

    I'm having the same issues since saturday. Bandwidth usage would max out at 2Mbps and go down to literally bits per second and have tried everything. Contacted support 3 times through live chat and was ignored 3 times.

    Maybe this means it's an East Coast problem? I also have comcast. Currently on Day 3 and and still unable to download Project cars. keeps switching from 1% to "Queued". Pretty upsetting since I can't play a purchased product. Also doesn't help that seemingly
    no one at MS is addressing this at all.

    Hey so yesterday I ended up getting a better modem and router from comcast. I'm not a fan of using comcasts brand router but it was free, I did a speed test of its 5ghz channel with a couple different apps on my phone and it was 100Mbps faster than my old
    setup whether it was the modem or the router im not sure. Bandwidth usage on my xbox went back up to around 30Mbps slower than what I thought it would be but still a major improvement. So that was yesterday. I had a couple things dowloading last night and
    when I got home from work today it was still downloading. Speeds were back down to 2Mbps rapidly spiking to low Kbps. I actually got my 100ft cat7 ethernet cable in today so I decided to try that. Even with wired it was still at the same slow speeds. I have
    tried everything should I talk to my ISP or you guys? Ive tried live chat support 3 times, every time they said they were going to check their resources and never returned. What gives with that?

  12. I have been having the same problem since the 4th. The Xbox itself and all my external tests report download speeds between 25 and 30mbs. The Xbox won't download games any faster than 1.8mbs. It took over 36 hours to down load the Forza 6 demo, The Forza
    6 Ultimate edition has been downloading for over 60 hours and has just reached 50%. So, no, the issue is not resolved.

    I have a 40Mbit/s connection and I average 38Mbit/s during windows / iPhone / laptop/ ipad downloads, but using the Xbox one I am getting 5Mbit/s. at the moment I have had the Fifa 16 demo downloading for 5 hours, and I am at 2 % and only downloading at
    1.5Mbit/s

    After many chats with support, the only answer I get is that the problem is solved and that I should not be experiencing any problems.

    Web Support takes a few hours going round in circles

    Phone Support doesn't have a clue

    Twitter Support takes a few days to get told to visit the forums

    Forum Support takes days and no answer

    I have been having the exact same problems with slow download speeds at home. I have run a network test and XBL tells me i am synced at around 37mb and when my downloads max these are the speeds i achieve. However since around the 31st my max download speed
    is 5mb. The Xbox speedtest still tells me i am getting 37mb.

    I live in the UK, I have Sky Broadband and use the Standard SR101 Skyhub. I have followed the above troubleshooter. Cleared the cache and have done the DNS/reset Mac address trick. No joy HORRIBLE install times :(
