Horrible display, pixelated graphics etc on new series s

Hi guys, my new series s Xbox looks like everything (including menus) has been drawn in mspaint. My old amiga 500 had nicer looking graphics. Not what expected. Settings say display is 4k etc and everything says it is compatible (except 120hz) so not the old xb one x display res issue where its just stuck on low res and not detecting higher res options. Whether streaming, gaming or just surfing the net, am about to give up and go back to the pc i built for less than $500 as that always looked good? Please help, would rather not have to return it?

I am of that certain vintage that remembers the Commodore Amiga 500 (in fact I started gaming on a Commodore 64). Your console should not look garbled or low quality when you turn it on. Be sure that your console running at the correct resolution, 1080P, 1440P or 4K via the system settings.

The Series S is not 4K for gaming but it is a 4K capable device for movie streaming. At the very least, even on a 4K display, the dashboard should look pretty crisp.

In short:

Make sure the resolution settings of the console match those of your TV or monitor.
Try changing HDMI ports on your TV/Monitor.

Failing this, your console may be faulty, in which case you'll need to return it.

I should add, sometimes console reset fixes it, the old "have you tried turning it off and on again". Sometimes this works, othertimes, not so much. As it stands, I seem to have about a 50/50 chance that it will go retro on me.

Also Rocket League which is a game I play a ton it is Series S|X enhanced and on quality mode on Series S it looks like trash. I don't mind graphics hence why I bought the series s but God jaggies everywhere and looks pixelated.

I call BS, the series s graphics aren't even close to as good as series x graphics. I have both console's, the only thing the S has going for it is good motion. Beyond that it's basically a 1080p machine with horrible antialiasing.

I have exactly the same issue today with the Xbox Series X but not the S.

tried multiple displays and multiples HDMI cable.
