    Hording inactive accounts


    Imagine a world where a major gaming company lets people keep inactive account for them to sell. Why must I be forced to use numbers? Why not wipe inactive account so real gamers can enjoy them? Xbox, you've made magnificent strides in the gaming world but you don't know how to properly resolve a simple gamertag issue?

    XBOX MUST HAVE ANOTHER REST ON INACTIVE GAMERTAGS!

    5 YEARS SINCE THE LAST RESET ON 1 MILLION TAGS.

    How is someone who has been inactive since 2010 still have the account?

    The tag system is used on other Microsoft services. Even if it's not in use on an Xbox, they may be signing in elsewhere so the account is not inactive.

    Then why are representatives telling me to make this? That is also a lie. Names after 6 years stay inactive and can no longer be used.

    They're no longer going to have mass resets. They changed the policy in 2016. If a person doesn't sign into their Xbox account for 5 years, the gamertag is freed up. As of August 31, 2019, if you don't sign into your Microsoft account within 2 years, the account will be closed which should free up the tag.
