hooking xbox 360 up through VCR to old tv

I got a tv in my bedroom because the old one I had was black and white and now I got a old color one. I am trying to hook up my 360 through the VCR/DVD player and I Can faintly see the picture but not great I can hear it too. I have a cheap RF modulator
but the VCR has support for S-video and I heard it looks better on old tv's. Please help. Thanks!

How to test 4k Ultra HD Video via Xbox One?

does your PC even output in 4K? Just because your TV is 4K ready.. the source still needs to be 4K.. would be like hooking up a VCR to a 1080P TV and wondering why the image is not in HD

It can work, but there will be a few things to consider.

.

1) The VCR may want to turn itself off after a few minutes. Overriding the auto standby mode can take a bit of detective work.

.

2) Any video material that uses Rovi AVP copy protection (aka Macrovision), e.g. DVD Video or streaming video services, may cause severe distortion to the picture, depending on how the VCR routes the signal internally.

3) If you live in Europe or Oceania and thus have a PAL standard VCR section, it probably won't accept the PAL-60 signal sent from the Xbox 360, even if it is capable itself of playing back NTSC video as PAL-60.

The conversion from S-video to composite in the VCR might let through more bandwidth in the luma signal than what the Xbox 360's own composite signal does. If the tv has composite inputs and a comb filter, that can give an overall improvement.

If the tv has an S-video input, it's even better. Generally, so long as the source has sufficient quality there should be a visible difference between composite and S-video.

But if the tv only has composite inputs and does not have a comb filter, the difference between composite and composite generated by a VCR from an S-video source is minimal. Consoles are an exception since they tend to filter their composite output harder
than necessary.

Over RF, there is already such limitations to bandwidth that there might not be much difference at all.

No good for me either. But I have an Xbox hooked up, a DVD/VCR, an XBox 360, and a cable DVR. When they say to have your tv on, I don't know if they mean in cable mode, or tv mode, or Xbox 360 mode. I don't want to control my tv with it, just my Xbox.

Thanks, I'll have a look through that. the frustrating part is that I have my old 360 (external wireless adapter) hooked up on another tv and Xbox live is working fine with no problems on that one.
