    Honest 1st impression Xbox One

So when I got my first 360 it was the Slim model and I happen to buy it 3 months before the Xbox One/PS4 announcement. So I was pretty *** and told myself I'm not going to wait this long again. Sadly had to give up PC gaming until I get a new tower.

Anyways I was reluctant to get an Xbox One given all the negative reviews regarding both PS4 and Xbox One. People saying it's "not really next gen" but rather "Generation 7.5 instead of 8" so I got mine today and people are dead wrong.

The graphics are considerably noticeable. Character models look real. The performance is incredible. And bonus points for actually giving us a HMDI cable with the console (unlike 360).

But it isn't all sunshine and rainbows. There isn't much compatibility with 360 games and if you have digital downloads on the 360... well it's kind of money down the drain. Which is odd considering the Xbox One should have no problem running older games after
what I've seen it do. Also, Microsoft why the hell is the controller still running on AA batteries? Vibration on and these controllers will die quickly. AA batteries... 2015 come on.

And of course the hard drive. So 500gb is a lot right? 2X as much as the 360 Slim 250gb. And on there I had a bunch of downloaded games. It held a lot. However next gen games are insanely packed.

    Assassin's Creed Unity 39gb / Shadow of Mordor 29gb / Destiny 40gb / GTA V 43gb / Dying Light 21gb

Where the Xbox 360 would be 6gb-9gb. So on 250gb hard drive with games being around 7gb you could have 35 games 30 games and some apps/DLC

Xbox One? Well given the average of games is about 30gb you're only going to have 16 games - 14 games and apps/DLC. So basically I'll be saving up for TB flash drives. This also means slow as hell download speed. It's nice you can play a game while it's
downloading but you will eventually hit the "Installing" page after a while.

I still think the console is great. I'm usually someone who doesn't care about graphics but when they're this *** good I can't help but be mesmerized. The connectivity is great, my subscribers can literally just jump in my games. I can send out mass invites
for games, I can stream my games directly on Twitch. The UI is amazing and I really enjoy the new controller. I feel like it's a bit smaller... for some odd reason even though it's bigger than the 360 the sticks feel tiny and they drag a bit. The shoulder
buttons are really resistive. But oh thank god it has a proper D-Pad.

So in conclusion... it's worth the 349 asking price. If you have enough money that is, I know things are rough right now. But if you're thinking about it, I'd say it's worth it. I was going to look into PS4 (I'm not a fanboy so I just pick whatever console
fits me). While I like the PS4 the controller is just not for me. I hate twin sticks... especially so close together. And I use Netflix, TV and watch movies so all the features of this console really fit me. It had no problems starting up, quick update and
bam it's already playing games. I'm just waiting for the 40gb game to download... which might take a while.

    :)

    How's the 360 version?

    8hrs/level 35.... loving it.

To be honest, my 1st impression was "meh, it's OK", but the more I played, the more I like it.

TBH you can't ask for better graphics from a $350 machine. I think the average person fails to realize that a nice graphics card alone costs $350+.

My issues are software and xbox live related.

I should mention that you don't want to buy a 1 TB flash drive, but rather, an external hard drive. I think most game companies skimp out on hard drive size. I bought a Wii U recently that was considered "deluxe" with a 32 GB hard drive. I downloaded
Smash Bros. and it took up half of that space. =/

yeah, 500GB is no where near enough with the size of these games. When the console was first announced, and the were pushing us towards digital, one of my concerns was the size of the drive. It was actually an argument to stay with physical discs. Then I
found out that you have to install a majority of the disk. Anyhow, I said all of that just to say 500GB isn't enough space. lol.

I like the fact that you can just plug in an external drive to expand your space. Don't like the UI too muich, and my Kinect doesn't listen to me well, so I've given up on it and just use the controller, which makes navigation cumbersome. I think it's because
I have an open floor plan, so the acoustics are a little whack in my place.

  9. Graphics wise I'm struggling.

Tomb Raider on 360, PC, and Xbox One. I pick this game because it is the one I've played over three platforms.

Honestly, there is not a lot to pick between the three. The PC and One have a definite edge, but if you are upset by the quality on the 360 then there s something wrong with you.

Pc vs One Tomb Raider. I am honestly torn as to which is the better looking. Personally I think the new Lara looks worse, they changed the face for the console Definitive Edition and it wasn't for the better.

Kinect voice control I find annoying. When it works, it is great. Yet I've never experienced it better than eight times out of ten. I've configured it it under every sound level yet I still find myself having to repeat myself. Oddly though I've never seen
    it ignore my girlfriend.

Drive space. 500gb is nothing. I've near 4tb on my PC and space is still a concern.

The One is a great machine. Please never think that I consider it otherwise. Yet at the same time consoles are moving closer and closer to being PCs. The closer they come, the more obvious the limitations become.

  11. i've got a ps4 and it's a fantastic piece of hardware. i kinda regret not getting an xbone simply because of the app snapping feature so i could play games and watch netflix at the same time...but i'm super satisfied with my choice. ps+ also gave me about
30 some games right out of the gate, and buying into the new generation means i have yet to pay full price for the few games i actually bought. hdd sucks donkey holes though, i have 100 gigs left and i still have a dozen or so plus games to download.

The fact of the matter is of the 500GB in your HD only about 316GB is available for saving games.

You need an external HD if you want to enjoy a robust games library.

Not ideal but no worse than any other developer with the added bonus that the best exclusive and most next gen games are on the ONE.

Bah I lost my own topic thread. Anyways replying to Vaynel I don't care about graphics. But if we're on the topic you have to remember I came from PC gaming just recently and for every good looking game on the 360 there were 20 good looking games on PC.
And besides it rarely ever comes to down to the console. It's the game developers that can either make or break the visuals. While I don't care for graphics I'll appreciate them when they're as nice as this. But my favorite game, probably, ever was Dark Souls.
Which had the worst framerate issues. Entire sections of the game would be seriously hindered by framerate. But that doesn't matter to me because the game made up for it in content.

For nearly a decade old console, the graphics were great. But in comparison to PC, meh. The only time I'll ever care for graphics will be when it gets in the way of the game. If Shadow of Mordor had horrible performance... oh god that would just be bad.

Anyways, yeah I'm having a serious issue with this hard drive thing. It's not like the console can't have more. Back in the early years of the 360 and PS3 a GB was a massive number. Now n days we have TB USB sticks.

I guess the tin foil hat in me is saying "Of course they don't want more memory cause they have a deal with hard drive retailers... they also have a deal with battery companies too cause who the hell is still using AA batteries for wireless devices in 2015?"
Yet I can't say I don't like the console. It's awesome. You can play a game while downloading a game without it canceling the download. Hell you can play the game while it downloads. I can capture footage of my games for my videos so easily now too.

With more memory, better controllers and making some 360 games compatible with XBO... this could have easily blown the competition away and become the best option to play next gen games on. However those are the main issues holding it back now. But these
issues are no where near as bad as the first years of the XB360 and XB360 Elite. So I'd say it's worth the money, it's a good console but just make sure you have some form of extra storage. With Assassin's Creed Unity, Dying Light, GTA 5, Witcher 3 and Dragon
Age 3 with all the XBL updates and consoleware AND a few extra games I got for free... I'm already half full on my hard drive.

  15. I'm not saying that graphics are the be all and end all. Rather that using the same game as the example, the 360 is still capable of amazing feats for its age. I run Tomb Raider on Ultimate on my PC and I still don't feel disappointed by what it looks like
    on the 360.

My point was simply that a game doesn't need every shiny new feature to look good.

Given the cost of the console at launch I do find it hard to understand why they didn't go with a 1tb drive, the price difference between the two sizes was, and remains, almost nothing. I'm sure that would have gone even lower with bulk discount for the
    amount Microsoft would be buying.

I can't see the hard drive manufacturers being the reason for the choice, after all we all knew that external storage was coming so no doubt they did too.
