Home Screen on the Xbox One is just terrible.

The home screen sucks. Why can't we place our "content blocks" anywhere we want? I'd like to be able to arrange and scale blocks like in the Windows 10 Start Menu. I want my favorite games or apps big and at the top of my home screen.

The screen real estate is being taken up by crap I'm not even interested in. I got spots being used by the following garbage; "Minecraft Shared an Image" then "Info From Xbox" then "Featured"

Below that are the small boxes with some of my games and apps showing in a strip. There appears to be eight slots across the screen here. These are the small square boxes that I'll call 1x1 boxes. Slot 1 contains a box I can click on to view all my games
and apps. Slots 2, 3, and 4 are each a game or app. Slots 5 and 6are a 2x1 box that's an advertisement and slots 7 and 8 are also occupied by a 2x1 advertisement.

Under all of the above, after scrolling down, are my pinned games and apps.

Why can't we disable the garbage? I don't want to see ads, features, pictures from Minecraft or anything that's not my games. We already paid an ass load for the console and some more for the games. Can't you you spare us the ad# and ****? Give us the option
to disable them. There are users who do want them and they can have that option also but don't force it on us.

Is this worth being my first Xbox one game?

When it works, it's absolutely brilliant. I've only experienced being booted to the Xbox Home screen in Conquest matches on occasion, more and more sparingly every day. I think the game is brilliant but just has had a terrible launch, which is nothing new
for BF games on consoles.

 

Everything works but my home screen

Everything on my Xbox One works fine but the home screen. When I turn on my Xbox, it shows the green loading screen, then opens the home screen, but then after one second the home screen fades to black. If I press the home button on my controller, the popup
menu will still open on the screen, so it isn't turning off the screen. If I navigate to the games and apps from the popup menu, I can still open games or apps, so everything works except for the home screen. I need help. P.S. I just opened a game then closed
it and the home screen works again but I'm not sure for how long.

 

Agreed. I pay an XBL Gold Subscription (NZ$69/12 months) and all week get is junk, ads, following, stalking, spam on the dashboard. Friends of friends activities too.

There was none of that on Xbox 360. I'm not interested in recording clips or videos and friends and friends-of-friends <--- peeps I don't even know!.... their activity showing on the dash.

However it has improved since XB1 came out November 2013. You can at least change the dash background to your liking, by copy paste your own photos and pictures and selfies even on the dash background and on your gamer pic for your profile.

I'm not interested in this Broadcast junk that doesn't even default share to YouTube. Not interested in Twitch nor Mixer. YouTube is the best. I'm not interested in recording video using the UI, I mean if you want to record a video using XB1's PVR thingy
system, videos are capped at 5 minutes max. Where as you can use a Hauppauge or Elgato to record gameplay and dash videos in excess of 5 minutes and easily share to YouTube, like what many popular YouTubers do already.

The UI looks like a bunch of squares all over the page cause it's Windows 10 based. But with no or little Kinect support, why have so many boxes? Even Windows 10 PC version and Xbox 360 isn't this boxy. Even PS4 isn't this boxy.

Sure I understand if you don't have a Gold Subscription they feel free to spam away. But they're still doing it for premium Gold subscription members too. I have YouTube Red and pay NZ$12/month to watch any YouTube videos with no
ads capeesh. And that's the beauty of it. And you can download YT videos at home, and watch them on your phone on Airplane Mode on your weekday bus commute or during lunch.

 

I know both of you really want the infamous "played the dashboard game for 10 hours" but seriously it does stack, you don't have to play the dashboard game for 10 hours straight. Turn your console on and being on the dashboard for just a few seconds still
counts.

Seriously though, I couldn't care less about the dashboard, I bought my Xbox One to play games, not look at the dashboard for hours on end.

You do know the dash is the operating system behind interpreting the UI right? aka the software. It is the most important thing running on your console. Without it, you wouldnt be able to play your precious games............... When others say the software
is crap for a company who is the largest software company in the world and that were still getting multiple large ads and spam on the dash even if youre a premium gold subscription and since theyre releasing system update after system update every month....
you cant please everyone.

Shaggy you play dash, just admit it. Even when you use dash for 1 or more seconds, you're just as guilty as someone who does it for 10 hours straight. Maybe you go to sleep or school or work and the console is left on dash.

Maybe if xbox had better games moe games and more exclusives, i wouldnt have to play dash ^u^

Actually, even the Xbox One X is cheaper than most of the shoes I own. Although I have to say, at the moment, it is NOT worth its price due to a very weak game lineup IMO.

 

Ok, for one I know exactly what the dashboard is and what it is part of,
I also know the Xbox One uses three (used to be three, may be down to two now) operating system. The dashboard is part of the system OS, and every game uses its own OS, this allows games to crash out but not effect the system itself. Remember playing
a game on the original Xbox or 360 and the game would hang and you would have to reset the whole console? that doesn't happen on the Xbox One.

I also know exactly how to get into games pretty quickly, turn system on, go to games and apps and choose the game I want to play. Is the dashboard perfect? no, but is it as bas as you say? also no.

As for leaving the console on the dashboard when I'm at work, nope, when I'm done playing a game I turn the system off.

Also I've got loads of games to play on the Xbox One, are all of them exclusive? no, but if you look at a top ten of games sold for any platform (apart from perhaps the Nintendo Switch) most of the games sold will be multiplatform games. Are exclusive games
important? yes, but they aren't the be all and end all that many people seem to think they are.
