  1. High Network Latency

    Hi guys,

I'm feeling very frustrated at the moment to the point where I've pretty much given up playing on my Xbox One at the moment so I'm hoping someone, anyone can help.

    Here's a summary:

I'm experiencing high network latency on my Xbox One and when I play FIFA 14 for example every online match lags terribly.

I'm using a Billion BiPAC 7800N router connected to the UK ISP Virgin Media on their National service (ADSL) using the ADSL2+ modulator. The Xbox One connection is wired and the NAT type is open. The Xbox One is connected to the router as follows:

Router > Powerline adapter > Powerline adapter > Gigabit switch > Xbox One

    Current ADSL status:

    Upstream: 679

    Downstream: 1787

    SNR Margin (Upstream): 5.8

    SNR Margin (Downstream): 8.9

    Line Attenuation (Upstream): 36.6

    Line Attenuation (Downstream): 64.5

    Router settings:

    MTU: 1492

    DMZ: Xbox One IP address

    UPnP: Enabled

Port Forwarding: All Xbox Live ports and FIFA 14 ports

    Xbox One detailed network statistics:

    Download packet loss: 0%

Upload packet loss: 2% or 3%

    MTU: 1480

Ping: 179 ms but this varies, can be as much as 300 or 400 ms sometimes.

From what I've read on the Internet the servers that are used for the detailed network statistics are located in Seattle hence why the ping is high anyway?

    My Pingtest.net results:

    Packet Loss: 0%

    Ping: 34 ms

    Jitter: 2 ms

    Your Grade: A

    My Speedtest.net results:

    Ping: 32 ms

    Download Speed: 1.59 Mbps

    Upload Speed: 0.53 Mbps

I know my connection falls below the recommended requirements for the Xbox One but I get high network latency even when I'm signing in to Xbox Live (it takes a while to sign in and load Internet content, menus lag in FIFA 14 and I got Ultimate Team communication
    errors.)

When I ping www.google.co.uk on my PC when there are no packets being downloaded or uploaded my ping consistently remains between 33-35 ms. I then load a web page and it shoots up to variably high values. As soon as the web page has finished loading the
ping returns to 33-35 ms. This same issue is happening on the Xbox One. There is nothing on the network using the bandwidth so why is this happening?

So far I've tried the following:

    • Contacted ISP but no help there
    • Changed ADSL modulator to G.Dmt
    • Tweaked SNR on router
    • Replaced powerline adapters
    • Bypassed gigabit switch
    • Powered down and unplugged the Xbox One to clear the system cache
    • Deleted all Upload clips (in case they were uploading in the background and saturating the upload bandwidth)
Would changing the MTU help? Is my bandwidth being saturated? Why would the ping increase so much when downloading and uploading packets?

Desperate to solve this otherwise I'm looking at a £400 paperweight High Network Latency :(

    :)

  2. High Network Latency

I'm from São Paulo - Brazil. I have a 30mbps download x 2mbps upload internet connection, my XBOX One is connected through ethernet cable to a Gigabit Lan directly connected to the internet cable modem.

I'm having a high latency, above 200ms, in connection to XBOX Live.

On Titanfall servers test, Brazil is 245ms and East USA is 150ms, thats too high for playing this game.

I've checked all cables, settings and tested using several tools and sites, this issue is observed only on XBOX Live and Titanfall servers.

    Any sugestions?

  3. Strange recurring problem with not displaying xbox live menus

you may want to run a network test in network settings. the tabs wont refresh properly if you suffer from high latency aka Ping. my new network has 86ms ping from the old 500+ ping High Network Latency :)

    High Network Latency

Try simplifying the layout. Powerline adapters are notorious for causing high latency. in this case wireless may be the better option.

  5. When I ping the router it's only 3 ms so would it not be something else?

Your speeds are kinda slow, compared to what they recommend but it still isnt you. I have called support 2 different times, and had went through all of the troubleshooting steps. It was confirmed both times it has to do with the xbox servers.

Hooked xbox one directly to my modem still a high ping of 100ms. Tried it through wifi 100ms. Hardwired into router still 100ms. They had me do a ping test on my computer and when it hit their servers the ping started spiking. This has been going on for
a while and it still isnt fixed. I dont use my xbox one or 360 anymore for that reason. I now use my ps4, and no issues streaming or playing games.

No it is not my setup. Charter Internet = 30mbps down 4.75mbps upload, Netgear NightHawk R7000 router, Motorola surfboard 6121. 100% wireless strength on anything. Ping test with comp over wifi = 15-25ms. So no not my end.

@ MAC You're ADSL SNR margins are way to low, you need at least an SNR of 12db to maintain a connection with no packet loss. You're modem is about to loose sync with DSLAM. You need to call you're ISP and get your line noise cleaned up first! Don't even
bother trying to tweak the Xbox One.

  9. @pigpiles Are you in the US?

@TanonymousX I don't have any packet loss with my current SNR though as shown in the Speedtest.net result?

  10. @ MAC, regardless of you're packet loss, your internet line needs fixed! We Xbox One owners are having network troubles with clean signals indeed. What I am saying is, if you're internet line is a mess, everything connected to it is going to be a mess. 5.9
/ 8.9db tells me your local DSLAM can barely hear / read your modem, you have bad cabling or major line noise. long story short, you're internet line is severely degraded and needs repaired, call your ISP have a tech come out to your residence and repair your
line. Don't expect the Xbox one or any other device to work properly.

  11. @ Pyrite I connected a network cable from my router to my Xbox One and it made no difference.

I've managed to increase my download speed to over 2 Mbps by lowering the SNR on my router but my upload speed remains limited to 0.5 Mbps.

I've changed my MTU to 1458 too as this is the recommended MTU for my ISP.

Is there anything I can do on my Xbox One that might solve my problems?

  12. If you really wanna tinker around the router, QoS is the thing that your looking for. Quality of service

    High Network Latency

SNR means Signal to Noise Ratio. You want this ratio high. More signal for a given amount of noise. Latency is going to be a symptom of something either with the equipment or ISP. If you were to take that same console to another loaction with another ISP
you will receive different results. Maybe call Virgin see if they can detect any issues with the line.

It may also be that using a combination of DMZ and Port Forwarding is confusing the issue. It is generally recommended to use only one of the two and not both at once.

  15. hey guys i have the same issue my download is always 124mbps download and 11.44 upload on xbox one my latency however is on 156 which is lowest upto 200 the is nothing wrong with my setup i have nighthawk r7000 router . my main issue is delay......on all
games always that slight second behin getting round corners and dropping?? shooting peope irst and getting dropped this is not your connection when i actually started looking austrailia europe uk all the same high latency and we all know optimal gaming is
20-150 ping /latency/ms some worse than others so if someone with lower ping is basicly gonna kill you because your slightly behind (lag/delay) and reason i belive is ...............all of us outside of the US are coonecting to xboxlive via a server all
the way in seattle, washington dont belive go ahead and check the are no servers in uk or else were this is why because asusual xbox dnt realy care we have all spent hundreds out on their products.............servers in uk xbox we spend enough money on your
products i have 4 of the bricks . anyway back to the point lol speedtest on sppedtest.net and ping it to seattle and i bet like mine the readings are the same my ping /latency was 160ms lol my xboxone pings 156-159 most of the time so...... xbox stop being
cheapskates and all gamers matter not just US POPULATION we pay just if not more for all the shipping costs too ........... please fix this and get servers in uk and if not uk atleast europe!!! why thankyou for this awful service
