Hidden contracts preventing use of console

Today my son received a message on his 360 stating it could not be played until the subscriptions were up to date. Thinking we must have missed a payment, I logged on to correct it. That was not the issue so I called into support. After being on the
online chat and on the phone for over a total of 6 hours, we were told there is nothing they can do and we should go back to the retailer we bought it from. We were told Microsoft sold these consoles with a 2-year contract built in to them. Now that they
have expired, it has locked up the console and it can no longer be used. One rep actually told me to go buy a new Xbox one. Which we were considering for Christmas. However, due to this poor service, we will now be purchasing a PlayStation device. I
am so disappointed in Microsoft and now understand why more and more people are moving away from their products. I was a fan. It's so disappointing.

Why not release games digitally early?

MS has actual contracts with retailers that prevent it in exchange for retailers giving them a more prominent position in their stores. During the 360 gen, the contracts were even tighter, which is why Sony could release digital versions day-and-date with the physical release but MS couldn't.

 

Gear of war 4 - Last update issue

Hi, some times I have found out playing through the first act that if you leave an enemy alive the doors won't open, even if the characters start talking, sometimes is just a Dee bee or a Tracker that is hidden preventing the player from moving forward
on the mission. Look for a hidden enemy or restart the chapter.

 

I am surprised at that. I was under the impression that after the 2 year plan ended it reverted to a normal subscription plan. It gives you no way to add a new subscription?

 

Exact same problem here. "Go to the store you bought it from". The store (BestBuy) had no idea what I was talking about, and why they are involved with this....
