    Unfortunately, the HHD's are physically different and can not be swapped. However, you can transfer the data from your 120GB HHD to a new slim HHD with the official Microsoft tranfer cable (third party cales are highly unrecommended). This just means you
    would have to get a model with a larger HHD.

    Sometimes this issue is caused by the placement of the HHD. Try to take of your HHD and replace it again making sure of it's connection.

    External HDD not powering off with the console. Even in power save mode.

    This is normal the usb port will have power the box that says something about powering off the hhd when off is for the internal hhd only. Also the amount of "extra" ware on the hhd is not going to shorten the life be any noticable amount

    Have you checked to see if you HHD has space? Free up some space on the HHD and see if that helps
