That is correct, a coaxial cable from the wall directly to the set with no box. The set's built-in tuner finds ~100 channels but none of the premium ones like HBO.

I should mention that I'm using the Hauppauge 955Q and NOT the Xbox edition tuner.

The item Bird linked should do what your looking for but the number of channels you get could be different.

In my area all but basic channels are scrambled and require a box, the fact your getting 100 channels makes me wonder if your apartment complex has some kind of setup that's unscrambling your channels before it gets to you. If your paying for it I would
assume that's the case but it seems strange that you wouldn't have a box.

Can you get a box? With the setup you have now I don't see how you could get HBO if you wanted it or watch On Demand, etc.

 

I have my xb1 hooked through my cable box, and everything works fine. Does this device take the place of a cable box for those who don't have one? How is this turner different than connecting through a cable box?

The antenna/tuner is only going to get you the free over the air stations in your area. In my case it's the local CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX , some public access and Spanish language channels ( 22 in all ).

If your going to ditch your cable box you'll need other options to get the majority of the content you'd be losing going boxless. For most people a Roku with HULU (paid), Netflix or Amazon Prime Video (both paid) and the 100's of channel apps on the Roku
will get the job done at a significant cost reduction from cable.

Does anyone know how the cord cutter experience differs using this as opposed to using the Homeworx HW-150PVR which is what I am using now.

The only difference is the linked setup is using the Xbox One as the Hommeworx.

If you don't need the DVR aspect then the best route is simply to use your TV's tuner with an antenna which will also give you the best picture quality and it only cost the price of an antenna.

 

When I get the Xbox One I'll surly be getting this. I wouldn't mind cancelling my cable service.

 

@Dr Black...... exactly my thoughts! I'm going to order one this weekend and give it a go. Ditch my cable and save $75/month.
