HELP! - Xbox One Headset Adapter

Today I bought an Xbox One headset adapter in the hope of finding a cheaper alternative to paying for a brand new headset (And not having to put up with the not-as-good wired headset that came with the console). I plugged the adapter in and the controller
updated just fine.

Note: I'm using a fairly cheap but perfectly good Plantronics Gamecom 380 headset, it has two 3.5mm jacks (One for audio and the other for the microphone) for details please see the following link:

When I plug in my audio jack into my speakers and my voice jack into the adapter I can hear sound coming from the dashboard, however when I join as skype call I lose all audio and I cannot emit any kind of sound through my microphone. When I unplug the adapter
I get audio again through my headset from the skype call. I've also noticed that I can also get sound when I plug my audio jack into the adapter, but then there's no way of using my microphone. So where am I going wrong? Is my headset incompatible? I have
also attempted to record voice using the Upload Studio but once again I've had no such luck. I've also tried playing with the two buttons on the left-most side of the adapter and still nothing can be heard or said.

Something else I noticed is that on the support page (Link:
http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/accessories/connect-compatible-headset) it mentions stereo and mono headsets, can somebody tell me if mine is stereo or mono from the details I've already given? It also states that "There are two audio jack
standards, Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) and Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP)" and that "If you use an OMTP headset, you will likely experience issues with audio or chat". Could it be possible that my headset could
be OMTP and that I may only need to buy an adapter to then convert it to CTIA to get it working? Would that fix my issue? (I hope so!)

Getting similar issues with GameCom 777 series. Two 3.5mm jacks connected to a splitter then connected the headset adapter. The splitter is a OMTP - CTIA. Game and chat audio worked fine but my friends couldn't hear my voice. I found out that we have to
use the 3.5mm - 2.5mm cable supplied with the headset adapter. I've now ordered a 2.5mm male - 3.5mm female adapter. Going to give that a try, hopefully it works. I will end up with a lot of cable/adapters but oh well.

Has anyone found another possible solution?
