HELP! Xbox One Doesn't Recognize External Hard Drive Anymore!

I bought a brand new Seagate 1TB USB 3.0 external hard drive as soon as the Xbox One introduced external storage. It has been working just fine for the past couple of months. I turned on my Xbox One today to discover that it suddenly doesn't recognize the
fact I have the external hard drive plugged in! I tried switching the USB port it was plugged into but that didn't help at all.

File recovery from HD formatted by Xbox One

I need some help from my fellow gamers. I'm wondering if any of you know how to recover files from a formatted hard drive. More specifically a Toshiba 3TB external hard drive that was formatted by an Xbox One. The problem I am having is that my computer wont recognize it anymore when I plug the hard drive into it. Can anyone help me figure out how to get my data back from it (if it still exists)?

Yes, I did. I also tried unplugging everything and plugging everything back in, but it didn't help.

Plug it into a computer to see if it is recognized? (Don't re-format if the computer asks to, of course). Your best bet is the support forums, not here.

Is the hard drive on and making the usual sounds it does when it loads? Is the Led blinking? Could be a dodgy hard drive. I used to have issues with Seagate hard drives before and from personal experience they are unreliable and poor quality. Do you have
a spare external hard drive lying around? Plug that one in and see if it works. It will rule out whether it is a hard drive issue or an Xbox issue.

I got an external hard drive for my Xbox One and installed everything on it, yesterday i turned off the Xbox while i was on a game and now my Xbox doesn't recognize the hard drive but when i connected it to my PC it is recognized.

Thanks for your reply! I did try that out, it does recognize other usb/external hard drives, so I'm thinking the problem is more with this particular hard drive that suddenly isn't being recognized anymore.

Perhaps your child's external hard drive is not working. Is your child's external hard drive recognized by the Xbox One? Does it turn on any lights?

Hi bvnk,

So based on your description it seems that your Xbox 360 is not recognizing your hard drive anymore. Which model of Xbox 360 do you have? The white one with the external hard drive at the top or the other models with the internal hard drive?

If you turn off and remove the power cord for a few minutes and try again it may work.

If it doesn't then it may be the hard drive that needs to be replaced by if you have a UDB of at least 4 Gb then you can try formatting it and see if your Xbox picks it up.
