Hello - I am not a gamer...I am a grandma who bought her grandsons an XBox One S (all digital) ...they live in a rural area and do not have internet other than a hot spot on their cell phone. Have I made a mistake? Is it possible to get the games downloaded
before I give the system to them and they be able to play like normal? (Can this be explained to me in words that I can understand?) Help with XBox One S / with no internet service :) Thank you!

    :)

your grandsons will need to go online to set up their accounts on the Xbox and to download games and to set the Xbox as the Home Xbox for their accounts and then to set the Xbox to offline, but once that is done they will only need to connect to the internet
to get new games and updates.

the Xbox will need to be set as the Home Xbox for the account that the games are purchased on so that they can share and both of them will be able to play the games.

this link explains how to set the Xbox as the Home Xbox https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox

    hope this helps

    Hey there RebeccaDawson1,

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for clarity concerning this situation. I can totally understand the confusion. The thing is for the initial set up of the console, one does, in fact, need a steady internet connection. Games also would need to be downloaded
from the Xbox Live Marketplace (which would require internet) or from a separate storage device as there's no disc slot on that console.

So in short, you can do all those things before you give it to them, but I think it's best to get with them so that you can get it set up appropriately together while you are in an area with a stable connection.

    Hope this was helpful.

[Mod Translation - Hello, it is possible, but would spend a lot of your mobile network, because it is a rural area, the best thing to do is to take a console to another place to download on a fixed internet. Until you can put the internet system
    in your grandchildren's house.

I hope I helped and look forward to your reply]

Hello - ... Is it possible to get the games downloaded before I give the system to them and they be able to play like normal? (Can this be explained to me in words that I can understand?)
First, let me say immediately it is possible. I am proud of you for taking a chance. Now playing "like normal" is not a phrase often associated with us gamers, so you will have to accept that!

I will try my best to keep instructions straight forward and will be here for questions.

First, the games must be single player. Check the packaging. If it lists both single and multi-player then the single-player mode will work without internet. Wolla! You will have a working game straight from the disk with no internet required. In the Xbox
console under System -> Settings -> General -> Network Settings -> Setup wireless network, choose Go Offline.

Drawbacks are no updates for issue resolution (yes some games make it to disk with errors) and of course the fun content support from the web. To help mitigate the latter, I use Xbox (beta) on my phone.

My next suggestion is two-pronged. One is to remember the box is very portable! Your children and grands can bring it with them to friends and family houses and use their internet to update the console and games. In fact, I strongly suggest the first setup
to be done in this manner!!!!! Just remember to setup the network connection (wireless or wired), do the install and update, BE SURE o then SET the network to offline. The second prong is getting a USB hard drive. I use a Toshiba 1tb USB 3.0 drive that costs
$52 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Canvio-Basics-Portable-HDTB115XK3CA/dp/B005J7YBRW?th=1). I have had the device
for almost 8 years with no issues. With the drive, one can back up all of the games and take them with them to be updated using friends' consoles. It also provides data security in case of hardware issues. The updated games can then be reinstalled. That process
is a lot more complicated technically and more effort in steps, but saves the transportation of the console. When doing the reinstall I have had some games ask for the disk again to verify I am an owner.

So hopefully the primary focus on did you make a mistake, the answer is now clearly no. Installing and playing games without internet is straight forward, easy and fun.

The more complicated tasks of updates and using a backup drive are still easy but should wait until not overwhelmed by the new console.

"Original Xbox" you speak about the first Xbox (15 years old) or the Xbox One NOT S/X?
