Help with Open NAT settings PLEASE.

So basically I got a new ISP and router a few days ago and no matter what I try I can not get Open NAT settings on my xbox which is really ruining my connection.

The only real problem I am having is that I can't get a static IP address to work. Or if I do, I can't forward the ports to it.

My router's (netgear router if it matters) address is 192.168.1.1, yet any time I try to give my xbox a static IP address of 192.168.1.x (I've tried quite a few numbers for x, all of which SHOULD work) it says there is a problem with the IP address which
makes no sense to me at all. This exact thing worked for me before.

However, if I set it to dynamic IP, or Automatic settings, the xbox chooses 192.168.137.217 for some weird reason. So I change it to manual and type in the automatic settings from before to make it static. Yet when I go to forward the ports to this address
on my router it tells me "Server address must be a LAN IP". I'm not even sure what that means, the 360 IS a part of the LAN if I'm not mistaken.

So as far as I know there is no way for me to get a static IP address on my xbox, AND forward the ports to said IP.

I would really LOVE if someone could fix this for me by tomorrow, I just want to play Dark Souls II without any issues but this might ruin that dream.

Also it might be of note that I connect my xbox to my laptop with an ethernet cable, using internet conection sharing, and my laptop currently has a static IP that I forwarded the necessary ports to. I tried that thinking it would help, but of course it
didn't. I will be getting a wireless adapter soon though, so this might fix it, or if I might have the same problem with the wireless adapter please let me know and if I need to fix it in a different way.

Please help and thank you in advance to whoever helps. Preferably before early tomorrow when I start playing Dark Souls II all day.

    :)

    Xbox connection issues HELP!!!

Why do I only disconnect from an xbox live party when a certain person joins my party? It also causes whatever game I'm playing to lag and sometimes disconnect. Really frustrating. We both have open NAT types. Otherwise connection is flawless. Even have gone into my router settings and opened all necessary ports. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Xbox connection issues HELP!!!

Are you sharing internet connection? Because this "both have open NAT types" sounds like you are sharing internet.

    Greetings toast!

Before we start digging in to all this networking stuff, could you post up the make and model of your router and your modem as well (if this is not a single device).

    Who is your ISP?

Just to rule out the possibility, if your connection are behind a Large Scale NAT (LSN) architecture, could you access the web-uitlity interface of your Netgear router and see if you can find the WAN/Internet IP address, which is the address assigned
    by your ISP.

Take a note of the WAN/Internet IP address and go to Current IP Check

Now, if this 'Current Address' don't match the WAN/Internet IP address that you see on your Netgear, then you're in a topologie that involves multiple levels of NAT. Multiple levels of NAT, or double NAT, don't support UDP (User Datagram
    Protocol) over NAT traversal.

Post back and let us know how that goes and we'll go from there.

The reason for this behaviour is, that your Laptop with Internet Connection Sharing is acting like a second router, creating a completely separate LAN for everything connected to its Ethernet port, while the WLAN part of the Laptop connects to your Netgear
    network.

There are two ways to resolve this:

One is, to port forward on the Netgear to the WLAN IP address of your Laptop, and in the advanced settings of the shared network connection of your laptop, also forward the same ports to the "strange" IP your Xbox gets from the laptop.

An easier solution however would be to disable Internet connection sharing, selecting both the WLAN and LAN icon in the network adapter window, and right clicking. Then choose to "bridge" the connection.

This will put your Xbox into the same local network as the Netgear and the Laptop, and is probably the scenario you originally intended to have.

  8. Help with Open NAT settings PLEASE.

All of the links posted above are excellent resources that you should take the time to read. But I have an alternative suggestion. I suspect that the reason your console is selecting .217 is because of the IP address you are attempting to assign is outside
of the range that you have configured in the router..

Please log into your Netgear router and select the Advanced button. Then please go to Setup and then finally LAN Setup. You will now see the option to name your Router, but we want to go to two sections down from that to the field called Use Router As
DHCP Server. Assuming this field is checked, you now have the opportunity to select the starting and ending IP address field that your router will use to assign addresses On my router my Starting IP address is 2 and my ending IP is 36. I assigned my Xbox
    360 to 192.XXX.X.36.

Now that you have adjusted your field (you shouldn't bother allowing more fields than you will use or assign unless you share your network with many individuals), go back into your console and select an IP address that is within the new range of IP addresses
that the Netgear can assign. Once you are connected, you can go back into the router and configure the console to be statically assigned internally although if you do like I did and use the last IP available you won't even need to bother with that.

    I hope this helps!

  9. I just realized I forgot to mention the port forwarding, once you resolve the IP field issue that I mentioned in my above post, navigate your Netgear GUI to Advanced > Advanced Settings > Port Forwarding/Port Triggering. Select the option to Forward and
    then enter the following information:

Service Name: XBOX 360 TCP/UDP EXTERNAL START PORT: 3074 EXTERNAL END PORT: 3074 INTERNAL IP ADDRESS: Whatever you assigned as static.

    Service Name: XBOX 360 TCP/UDP " " : 88 " " : 88 "" : "

    Service Name: XBOX Live TCP/UDP " " : 53 " " : 53 "" : "

Finally, go under UPnP under Advanced Settings and make sure the service is no longer checked. NAT is now open! Help with Open NAT settings PLEASE. :)

Wow, of course it was a stupidly easy solution. All I did was bridge the connections and it works fine now. Thanks for all your suggestions guys, luckily I fixed it before I got Dark Souls 2. SO EXCITED.

It's just weird because on my last router I couldn't bridge connections, but i got a static IP to work...

Whatever, it works now, thanks again.

Can you tell me how to adjust the shooting (Right button) on the NHL 15 and NHL 14 games? When the second controller is activated, it shoots the opposite direction from the first controller (mirror image). There has to be an adjustment so bot the controllers
    for Xbox 360.
