HELP, why does my console turns off when attached to the TV via HDMI

Out of the blue the kids couldn't get the XBox 360 to turn on. After some troubleshooting I figured out it has to do with the HDMI connection.

I plugged it into different HDMI outlets, ones I know are working because they run my cable just fine. No luck

I used a brand new HDMI cord and it worked last night.

Tonight the kids try to play, same issue.

Thinking its my TV... I plugged into a different TV, no luck!

I don't get it? Why would the HDMI have control over the power? Is it the outlet on the console? Can that be replaced? Or is this an internal computer glitch?

Our system is 2 yrs old but has been very lightly used...

Xbox One turning off/on Xbox 360 when not connected.

I used to have my 360 plugged into the HDMI IN of the Xbox One but added a second TV to my gaming room. Now the consoles are no way connected using 2 different TV's via HDMI. Whenever I have both consoles on and turn off my Xbox One the 360 turns off as
well. Sometimes the 360 will turn on as well when powering off the Xbox one. Does anyone know how this is possible?

XBOX 360 only works if the TV is off.

When I turn on my XBOX 360 with the TV on, it shuts off and the light turns red.

If I remove the HDMI cable, it works normal light turns green, runs cooler, connect the HDMI cable to the TV on, it turns off.

Can you help me?

The console shuts off when it doesn't detect an HDMI signal. This could be due to the cable, or TV. I would recommend resetting the video settings on the Xbox 360. If that doesn't work, then your HDMI port on your console may be damaged; I would try it on
a different TV.

On some HD TV's there is a feature that, when connected to a device with HDMI, will "communicate" with that device. An Example of this is like my setup. I have a Blu-ray player connected via HDMI. When both TV and Blu-ray player are off, and I only turn
on the Blu-ray Player, they both turn on. It works the same way vice versa when I turn off my TV. I would go into your TV settings and look for a setting about HDMI "communication" and turn it off. Your TV might be telling your Xbox to "Turn on" and the Xbox
takes that as a command and "Turn itself back on" by restarting.

My TV goes into a weird mode when a VGA source is attached - it seems to believe that it is in a kiosk or something. If the attached source (Xbox, laptop, whatever) shuts off, the TV turns itself off as well. So for that reason at least HDMI is my preference
regardless of any picture quality differences.

The console should be completely powered off when setting up or connecting the HDMI cable.

Once physical setup is complete, Turn on the TV, AVR if using, then turn on console last of all.

Hello Sean, sorry to hear you're having trouble with the TV and console.

This sounds like you have HDMI-CEC set up on your console. This will allow the console to turn the TV on or off when you turn the console on or off.

It's possible that the console has not fully shut down when you turn off the TV so it could be getting a false 'turn on' signal from the console. I'd suggest waiting a moment after turning off the console to turn off the TV or turn off the HDMI-CEC setting on your console.
