    Old 20 Gb HDD transfer to 250Gb slim

    So I have the official transfer cable, all updates are on the xbox slim and yet it just detects the old HDD as a unformatted usb device. PLEASE help.

    File system corruption happens when you: A, use a crappy USB stick, or B, use a good USB and it's dying. Either way, there's no way to get your files back. Don't use USB sticks. Use an external HDD instead, or your internal memory.

    Thanks for the replay, but I don't have issues with my usb storage. Usb work fine.

    The problem is that the HDD shows as unformatted sometimes.

    Hi Poke,

    If that internal flash memory showed as unformatted, it should be fine to format it. Especially as there is no data on it. you would be able to

    reinstall the system updates     from Xbox Live.

    That would also really help us narrow down if this is a fault with the console itself that keeps showing the USB as unformatted. This is also why I suggested trying the USB drive in a different console.

    I have the old one plugged into the new one. It's recognising that something is there but it only sees it as an unformatted USB device.

    Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately if the USB device reformatted itself there is no way to get those saves back. Reformatting usually happens if there's an issue with the device itself. Sometimes this is due to the age of the device or some devices do not
    play well with the Xbox consoles.
