Help: Series X, no gameplay sound for certain games

Thanks a lot. It worked for me. I too have a samsung smart TV. I just had to Switch off my TV unplug it, wait for few seconds and plugged it again. It worked. For me it was fifa 23 game.

I tried that but it doesn't seemed to have helped. But the problem isn't as frequent as it used to be. For example, yesterday I played a game that had sound, quit the game and exited out to the dashboard where there was no sound. Went into a different game and there was sound, finished that game and went back to the dashboard and there was no sound again.

But today everything was normal. I had sound all the way through.

Thanks, but are you sure this resolves the issue permanently? It seems that you ran into the issue and went through the above to resolve. We have confirmed that by doing a force restart of the TV by simply holding the on/off button on the remote for a about 5 seconds instantly solves the problem without having to restart the xbox or unplug the TV. Let us know if this did resolve the issue permanently.

This is super frustrating and I can only encourage anyone to cancel their Game Pass subscription until this issue has been officially acknowledged and will be fixed. I also have a Samsung TV (Q90R) but wouldn't know whether this is Samsungs or MS fault. Surely they should get together and investigate the issue however.

Ben, this is interesting because what you are experiencing is a bit different/opposite of what the rest here see. You have no sound on the dashboard and sound is ok in the original game you are playing, whereas what most see seems to be no sound in 'some' games and apps, but full sound in the menu/dashboard. Having said that, I bet it has to be related. There is something about the type of sound signal coming in and out of the HDMI interface that is different for the menu and some of the apps. Hoping to hear more of what others are seeing.

I too have an Xbox Series X connected to a Samsung TV and a Sonos Beam. The set up up is Series X to Samsung TV via HDMI and TV to Sonos Beam via HDMI ARC.

I get sound fairly consistently from start up, however if I play a game for a couple of hours and then return to the dashboard I have no sound on the dashboard or on anything else I try to open within the dashboard menu. If I go back into the game I was playing I get sound within that game but nothing else. The only way to resolve this is turning off for a longer period or unplugging the HDMI from the Xbox into the TV for an instant fix. This isn’t an adequate fix though, especially for a wall mounted tv.

When I experience these issues, if I change source to normal TV, I have sound as normal with no issue. But the second I go back to the Xbox source, there is no sound. Therefore I too believe this is an issue on the Xbox side but would be helpful if this can be categorically confirmed.

Has anybody managed to get any further with the root cause of the issue/permanent workarounds?
