Help Please!! I cannot connect my Xbox to Xbox Live....I've stopped and started everything ...

I"m getting to the end of my tether when trying to connect to the live account, I've read all of there possible causes and have restored factory settings and re-started my home network so often that my wife and kids are beginning to think I've gone mad.

When I first tried it failed to connect to the wi-fi due to poor signal (my laptop worked fine in the same room but 'hey hoh!', so I went and bought a BT Dual-Band Wi-Fi extender and have plugged that in the same room whereby that particular issue disappeared,
then we came to the Live Account connection issues where it insists I either had an Internet issue or others as and when I'd restarted.

I've even got to the point where I've connected the Xbox via a nice brand new shiny cable restarted everything - including unplugging the power sources - and then started it again, at which point it ran a downloaded a sequence of updates....here we go I
thought!...definitely on the internet now as the download is working.....then I test the connection to the Xbox Live and....!!!???....yep no internet connection, whereupon it suggests, setting to factory, switching off and on and all will be miraculously resolved!?

....Nope!!...at this rate my 1-year subscription will have run out by the time I get it working

Please, please, please can someone help me out as it is driving me mad and I've got the whiskey out now so not anticipating doing any major repairs later tonight.

I have a standard BT Infinity Hub for broadband, TV and Phone....which I have added the BT Wi-Fi extender plug in......and on the main hub I've added a special music hub for wireless speakers on the other side of the house so that's all separate....and we
have an iPad a Mac Book and a standard windows home computer all connected to the internet.

As mentioned all of the updates had worked on the initial start-up via Wi-Fi connection and worked again yesterday when the Xbox was hard wired with the ethernet cable but still the internet doesn't work again for Xbox live.

I'm UK Based and the following status report from the ethernet connection:

I'm sorry you have this issue, it's very irregular. Does it give you an error code when it says you can't connect to the internet as that may be able to give us some specific details as to why it is happening.

Apologies for delay in responding but I have my son's birthday as well now hence time is short.

There wasn't any apparent error code just that it gave the big red cross and then suggested that if my other Wi-Fi devices couldn't log in that there was probably a network issue - but everything else is fine....even from the same room.

I've tried with and without the PPP?....internet provider login details, I didn't need this for my laptop and unsure what all 3 boxes relate to as we have a BT Account with User-ID and Password but unsure what the 3rd box is for.

Whilst I'm not Mr. PC Superstar (in fact I can get a bit technophobic at times due to the lingo), I do implement Computer systems to multi-national companies and used to be a Cobol II programmer (probably before you were born!! , so I'm aware of the
logic of pressing step by step and sequences, hence I tried all sorts including a total power off of hub and Xbox - I simply don't know what to try next as the Live Account due to friends being on it / getting it for Christmas, was a particular reason why
we bought the Xbox as opposed to other brands.

Is there a way of finding out if there are any tips or tricks from earlier issues with a BT Infinity Account?

Is there a way of resetting the whole Xbox back to Factory settings so that it forgets the existing Internet connection and profiles etc. then maybe I can re-set up everything from scratch (It always remembers the Wi-Fi address (not password) even after
restore factory settings, just in case I did something wrong in specifying the type of internet account? Given that it is currently hard-wired I'd expect all of that to be ok mind.

Just to clarify, when you run the diagnostic test (Test Xbox Live Connection (Network settings)), is your console then unable to establish connectvity to the Internet?

 

It fails the second stage test of the 3 step Xbox live connection and is the same with just wi-fi and hard-wired.

For the last couple of days, there have been numerous of reports similiar to what you experiencing, which include, but not limited to, unable to connect their console to the Internet.

With this fresh in mind, let's try a few things, and let us know where it'll take you.

If it's possible, can you hard-wire your console directly to your BT gateway, and use an Ethernet cable that you know works seamlessly.

Clear you console's system cache and restore your console's network settings. This will clear your console's IP settings, and as soon as you try connect your console to your network,
it'll issue new IP configuration from the DHCP server on your router.

Go to Xbox Network settings and select Configure Network. Select the Additional settings tab and Restore to factory defaults. Your console's IP configuration should now all be 0 (zeros).

Press "B" on your controller and select Test Xbox Live Connection.

Still stuck between Network and Internet, then proceed to the next step.

Use a USB flash drive,
configured for use with the Xbox 360, or FAT32 formatted, and use it to move your profile safely to USB drive.

Now, go to System settings and Storage. Select All Devices and Profiles. Select Move. Afterwards, select Delete and select Delete Profile Only - This deletes the profile but leaves saved games and achievements.

Delete a portion of the current system update installed on your console and reinstall the system update as follows:

Turn off your console. Press and hold the sync button (the small one you use to connect your wireless controllers). While holding press the power button to turn your console on. Continue to hold the sync button until the console is booted up.

Go to System Settings and select storage.

On your controller, press the following button sequence:

Press the left bumper.

Press the right bumper.

Press the X button.

Press the left bumper.

Press the right bumper.

Press the X button.

Restart your console.

Post back and let me know how that goes.

I'm facing a very similar problem and I too am at my wits end. I'm using a Belkin F9K1118v1 modem router. I hope RWBKing's issue will get fixed soon, cause I'm definitely less technical.

same here. my isp is talktalk and got no help what-so-ever from them. dns error. tried everything iv read static isp manually inserting dns, port forwarding bla bla bla. ready to throw console through window
