Help migrating a Minecraft account that used a plus symbol in the Mojang email

I originally bought Minecraft for all four of my sons when they were young. I used my Gmail email address with a "+" symbol in it to differentiate them rather than trying to create an email for each of them (they had no business on email at that age).

Well, now that I am FORCED (and darn upset about it) to migrate them to a Microsoft account, I simply can't. Microsoft refuses the plus symbol in any form of email address, even though it is an internet standard.

I tried creating the Microsoft account with the original Mojang email (with a plus in it). Nope, can't do that.

So, I created an outlook.com email for my son. Great...he has an account! However, when he logs in, it says he only has a demo of Minecraft, even though I paid for a copy for him.

After doing some digging, I found that the email on your Microsoft account has to match the email on the Mojang account you used to purchase Minecraft.

So, I tried to add the original email (with plus) as a secondary (alias) email to his Microsoft account. Nope, won't accept the plus symbol.

So, I read that you can change the Mojang email to match the new Microsoft email! I tried that. I logged in to the Mojang site, submitted to change the email (which forced me to waste time adding security questions). It then (finally) let me change the email. It accepted the plus email. Yay! Except it sent me a confirmation email. When I click to confirm it asks me to verify both the old and new email address. I enter them, and it freaking won't take the plus address on the old email! Seriously? I can't validate my old email (that is valid) because the input form rejected it.

I cannot tell you how frustrated and angry I am right now. Can you please help? This will require manual assistance or (ideally} a code change to the email change verification form so it accepts plus symbols on the old email address.

I dread going through this process 3 more times. Please consider that these are kids' accounts. Forcing a migration was a poor decision.

So, what I recommend is prior to migrating the other accounts contact Mojang about changing the emails that have the purchases first. If you purchased it through them, they will either be able to step you through the process of changing your Mojang account email or let you know that you have to change the email of the Microsoft account.

If they cannot, you will have to sign into each account using the +email format to access the Microsoft account that has the purchase and change the email BEFORE you migrate so that the purchase sticks with the new email. Mojang has to confirm that the purchase email is tied to has to be changed with Microsoft before you migrate. This is especially true if you purchased the Bedrock Editions through the Microsoft Store, that means your purchase is tied to that Microsoft Account first and you can change the email that possess the purchase then Migrate.

I migrated one of the 4 Mojang accounts. That is the one I am having issues with. The Mojang account emails are my personal Gmail account with "+NameMinecraft" where Name is their first name. Those Mojang accounts all have paid Minecraft purchases. But because they have a plus in them, I can't use them for a Microsoft account.

I also have a Microsoft account. And the new Microsoft account I got for my son when trying to migrate his account is in my family group. However his Microsoft account's email address is from outlook.com since it would not let me use his Mojang account's email.

I have not contacted support yet. I actually (mistakenly) thought this was a support board. I now realize it's a community site.

Just to be clear you have not migrated your account yet? They are still accounts with Minecraft purchases on them however you can't migrate them because of the Microsoft account? Are these emails in a family group with your Microsoft account?

Have you contacted Mojang or Microsoft Support?

That's normal, you can't access the old Mojang account after the migration, you need to use the email you used to migrate the Mojang account to, in the launcher you need to select Minecraft Java and then Microsoft login and then use the email you use during the migration process

If the hacker managed to migrate the account, this means the gained access to the email linked to your Mojang account.
