Help me understand profiles/gamertags

hi, I don't really understand gamertags or profiles. I've read many of the support articles but they aren't helpful. Maybe I should describe what I want and see if someone can figure out how to do it.

So if I play Rocket League with my sons, the first controller is always logged in to the main gamertag and thus all the options and things we've unlocked save under that tag.

But for their controllers, we just always select "guest". But this means their options/unlocked items don't save.

So is there a way to have a gamertag under my main account for each of my kids? That way when we play, I play with my controller logged into the main gamertag, my oldest would play under a different gamertag, and my younger son under one that's for him too.
And that each of these tags would have access to every car we've unlocked?

my gamertag was changed for no reason

i logged onto my account on my xbox, it said i needed to download my profile again, so i did. after it downloaded it gave me a completely different gamertag, i dont want this gamertag and i didnt pay for it. i dont understand why this happened but i really
want my old gamertag back. someone please help me!

I had to set up my son under my MS Family
https://account.microsoft.com/account/manage-my-account. You are going to need to have an email address for this and when creating a family member account on the Xbox, so I just created a Gmail account for him that my wife and I have access to only.

After setting up the kids under your family you are going to want to turn on the Xbox and set it to (Home Console)
My Home Xbox Setting on Xbox One | Share Your Xbox One . In my case I have my original X-One that is his and I have a Xbox One S, My home console is set to his that way all the
games I've purchased digitally he can play because his is the Home Console and.

Now all you need to do is add their new accounts to the Xbox and you can fined a how to here

Once they have their own account under their profile you can assign a controller to their individual account you can find a how to here

While it may look like the character is moving and the world stands still, in reality in video games it is exactly the opposite. The character is mostly static while the background moves around them. Hence, lower quality.
