Help Linking a 360 to a HDTV with NO HDMI Input (Has DVI)

Hi all,

Apologies if i'm in the wrong section.

Basically as the title suggests. I'm trying to hook my brothers xbox 360 up for him to a HD tv that he bought in 2007(ish) which DOES NOT have a HDMI port but DOES have a DVI port.

Now obviously we have the scart option which is pretty poor quality and in playing around with an adapter his wife has for her PC - I think it was a HDMI to Scart lead - we got a much better picture but no audio at all.

So we are stuck with poor picture & audio or much improved picture & no audio.

So my question is this...

Q) Is there an adapter/cable out there that will carry BOTH a HD picture & Audio from an Xbox360 to a DVI port on a HDTV.

Hope I have explained my situation clearly, if you need any more info then please ask.

I want to buy an xbox one but I have an older HD tv with no HDMI input. Is there any way to hook up an Xbox one. My tv has component and DVI inputs for HD.

I can get a HDMI to DVI cable but I will have no audio. what can I do?

You will need a HDTV with HDMI or need to get a HDMI to DVI adapter and connect it to a computer monitor.

 

Sorry to hear it. Your best bet here would be to head to your local electronics store and see if they have an HDMI to DVI converter.

As i said, HDMi to DVI carries video only, I need something that will carry both Video & Audio, or another way to carry Audio on top of using a HDMI to DVI...

Does the TV have component inputs? You could get a component cable for the 360 and get video/audio that way. Also, if the TV has a optical audio input you could get a optical audio cable.

 

The best I could find was something like this.

That was at Best Buy in Canada. If the TV does not have an input for audio the jacks could be used for external speakers. Otherwise you could look into getting some better quality headphones for him. These would pump the sound through the headset instead
of the TV.

What entexman wrote. Surely a HD TV made in 2007 has to have component inputs. That would solve your video and audio issues. You'd have the red/green/blue for video and the red/white for audio.

 

Component video will work. Otherwise you can get an audio only adapter that will connect to the multi-out port on the Xbox 360 and provide audio out (stereo analog as well as optical digital) while video is carried over HDMI.
