Help for son playing with friend on Minecraft

I'm not sure what has happened to our settings, but we recently bought a new (pre-owned) xbox one and now our children are having difficulty being able to join each other in games. The settings are all as they should be, eg the communication and multilayer are all set to allowed etc, and when loading Minecraft it shows that their friend (brother) is playing but won't let them join each other. Game settings for that particular world are set for friends to join. Even sending invites won't work and just displays a message telling us that the settings aren't right but as I already mentioned, they are. They were able to join each other on our previous xbox one so I'm confused why it has changed. Any ideas as to why this has happened and how I can get it working please? Many thanks.

Unless you are taking about 360 accounts you can't create a gamertag without a email linked to it , so they must have email linked, on that site if the accounts are for child's means that you must have those accounts linked to your parents account on the Microsoft Family site, so you must log with that account to manage the child's accounts

If the message appearing is that the settings are not allowing him to play with friends, means that the privacy settings are not set properly, you must change the privacy settings of your account. It can be done here

I think they were created with my email account. I logged in and can see my kids on there but can't see a way to add an email account for them. Is this what I would need to do to sort the multilayer function? All the settings are set properly so I'm not sure why there is still a problem.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

When I click that link it asks me for an email address. Is this for my son's account or mine? Something I noticed on our xbox is that my two younger sons have gamertags but their email addresses are not connected to these, and I can't find a way to link the two without it trying to create a new gamertag for their emails.
