[Help a dad]PvZ question about local multiplayer

I bought PvZ to play with my kids and for them to play together, unfortunately it looks like I may have wasted $40, since the local multiplayer/online is not quite what I thought it was.

Is there anyway for two local players to play any game modes other than the wave defense? Is there no way for the second player to earn experience in the wave defense mode? Is there any way for two local players to both play multiplayer together?

I read the description very carefully and the way it was written made it seem like two of us could play any of the multiplayer modes together (like on the 360 with player and player(guest)).

Any help at all would be appreciated, I've got two pretty dissapointed kiddos right now and a fairly dissapointed Dad as well.

My dad activated family control on my brother's Xbox 360. My dad does not remember the password and the answer to the question they ask. Someone to help me?

 

Right now it is only garden defense mode. The second player does not get experience or coins since the splitscreen is broken. It was a last minute decision to add split screen I've read since frostbite struggles with splitscreen. In the end it literally
got peoples hopes up for nothing.

 

It sure would be nice to play on the same team as zombies or plants in the multiplayer online wars. I guess the limitations of split screen can't bring us that kind of fun.

We just take turns in the single player experience ambushing the opponents.
