are you trying to connect a wired Xbox 360 controller or are you using a wireless 360 controller via the play and charge cable.

It is not possible to use the Xbox 360 wireless adapter to connect this controller to your PC. This controller looks like it features Bluetooth so you may be able to connect it this way or alternately you can connect it via a USB cable or the wireless adapter.

It may also be possible to purchase the controller and wireless adapter together such as I have linked below.

Please note to use the Windows wireless adapter it looks like your PC must be running Windows 10.

For me, once I had linked my Laptop to the 360 using Windows Media Centre..the first time I tried to play an .avi file, the 360 asked me to download the Ipod media item. Once I did this all movies on my Laptop could be streamed via my wireless network to
the 360 no problem

So if I understand you correctly, you are streaming from your console to your laptop, and you have your controller connected to the laptop with your earbuds connected to the controller?

How is your controller connected to the laptop? Via MicroUSB cable or via the Xbox wireless adapter for Windows 10?
