If you mean the free month when starting a account then you don't get that anymore.

You will not be sent a code for a months xbox live gold.

that is why unable to get the backward compatible games. They will not work with the 14 day trial unfortunately. In this link

describing Xbox live gold there is a section explains the trials.

With an Xbox Live Gold 2- to 14-day trial, you can get Xbox One Games with Gold, and discounted Gold deals.

If it was a one month trial you could get the backward compatible games.

If you were prompted for a for a free trial when you created you account you should actually be offered a free month of gold. As long as the account is brand new and has never been signed up on Xbox Live you should get that offer. If it is not prompting
you on your console then you may be able to get it through Xbox.com.

By going to the top of the page hover over Xbox Live Gold,

the option at the bottom says join Xbox Live and you click on that,

it should bring you up to the page when you can choose memberships for you account and there you should find the offer for a free month of Xbox Live gold.

Note that once you sign up for the free one month trial you will be automatically billed for another month at the end of your trial, which most people seem to not know so just gonna put that out there for you to know. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if I fully understand what you wrote, but I think I get it. Are you going from Xbox Live Silver(Free) to Xbox Live Gold and they are offering a free 1 month trial? If so, then if you take the 1 month Gold free trial, afterwards it will auto
renew for another month of Xbox Live Gold which would be at a rate of $9.99 per month. Now if you don't want it to renew. You can take the free trial and then contact Xbox Support at 1-800-4MYXBOX and have them remove your credit card to stop the auto renew.
