Heavy bandwidth usage when "shut down"

Hello,

I recently tried the Bandwith tool added with the September update, and found out my Xbox One uses a lot of bandwidth when I'm not using it. The console is set to Instant On and to download updates automatically. And i would expect some bandwidth usage as
updates get downloaded etc. But during the time 9am - 5pm (When i was at work) the Xbox One had used approx 16GB of bandwidth. And i didn't even have a game queued for download. It used bandwidth throughout the hourspan in chunks, with the minimal hourly use
600-800MB to 3-4GB an hour.

Is this normal usage for the Xbox One? Like i could've understood it if i had queued a new game, but updates for 16GB in 8hours?

Actually, the biggest bandwidth leak (4.5 GB in 6 hours) happened when the console was totally idle as I forgot to shut it down when I left for work. I have been playing multiplayer online games on xbox for years and the bandwidth usage has never even been
close to that.

I am really at a loss.

There`s only a handful of providers that actually are totally unlimited, I found this out recently when i was told my unlimited broadband had a 100gb per month fair usage limit.

 

As the size of updates loaded in instant on mode depends on your installed games it would be necessary to know what game you have on your One, too see if one of them had a big update lately.

Is this a single day where it happens or is it happening every day?

 

Ah okey, games installed on the One are as follows:

Project Spark, Tom Raider Definite Edition, Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Killer Instinct, Lego The Hobbit, Battlefield 4, Fifa 14, Forza 5, Trials Fusion, Need for Speed Rivals, Child of Light, Wolfenstein TnO, Super Time Force, Watch Dogs, UFC, Sniper Elite
III, Guacamelee, Diablo 3 UEE (But this one started updating after i was back home again), Metro Redux Bundle, Warframe.

But I didn't notice many symbols in the games in "My games & apps"

I don't know if its just one day, or every day as i discovered it yesterday. But in the Bandwidth tool it also says "last period" and that was from 08/28 to 08/31 since the Tool came on 08/28, and that the usage for those days was 55-56GB also.

Hmm. I know that there is an update of about 16gb for DR3 which may cause this load probably.

As for now I'd suggest you monitor that behavior the next days of it goes on. If it does, then put your console to energy saving once when shutting down. After that check for all games if they need to be updated. If they need to, please do this. After all
games are updated go back to instant on and check again for the bandwidth usage while in instant on.

Wow, i have to find the patch notes for DR3, they must have done a lot of changes/added more stuff since the update was 16gb hehe!

And yes, I will keep monitoring for the next days, and do the steps you described!

I couldn't find the Edit Button so ill just post a followup question i forgot in the post above:

If the update to DR3 of 16BG was the reason for the bandwidth usage yesterday, wouldn't it

be downloaded in one go? Not start at 3-4GB/hour then keep downloading for 600-800 MBs/hour until finishing off with a couple 3-4 GB and hour?

I had to uninstall and reinstall Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition yesterday also, because it got stuck on 100% "Ready to play", but that download took only 3-3,5 hours. And that is a bigger file size than the 16GB update to DR3.

 

That depends on the server where the files are stored on.
