    Heavy Artifacting on GameDVR

For some reason, I am getting heavy artifacting on most, if not all games. This problem only seems to be with Game DVR as other apps like Plays.TV or OBS record perfectly fine unless the bitrate is set low (or if the AMD encoder is set without an obnoxiously
    high bitrate).

I'd like to add that the games are not intensive whatsoever. Enter the Gungeon, Jotun look horrendous, while games like Far Cry 4 works flawlessly (I think, since I only recorded a 45 second clip) and Witcher 3 only glitches out at random intervals.
    Usually when I'm standing still.

I'm running an AMD R9 390 and an i5 4460. Any idea what the problem here is?

    :)

i'm also running an AMD R9 390 and an i7 2600k. guess the AMD card is the common denominator.

i have almost the exact same problem.

when i start recording is looks like it starts out with something like 500kbit/s, then the longer the recording goes the better the quality becomes (same for running the background recording). this does NOT happen with any other hardware encoder, only the
    xbox app dvr does that.

wild guess is that windows 10 does not set the starting bitrate properly, which is very unfortunate as it seems to be the most versatile of all 3 major hardware encoders as it supports not only every fullscreen application, but even UWP games.

I tried your suggestion but sadly it didn't work :-(

However, I did find another way .....

If you play the game as normal (in full screen). When you wish to save the last 5 mins of gameplay, double click the Xbox logo button and "snap" the GameDVR. Then choose "End Clip now".

(thats right, it is not a typo, you are ending clip without first choosing to "Start Clip")

this will then give you options to save the past several seconds of gameplay from 30 secs up to 5 mins

Snap game dvr, start recording, unsnap game dvr. That way you can record up to 5 minutes & still have the game in full screen.

It will automatically stop after 5 minutes or you can snap it again & stop it yourself before 5 minutes is up.

Ok,didn't know that as I use the Kinect to snap the game dvr.Must be a bit different without Kinect.

It does save over 5 minutes when I do it as well though.
