Heating of the xbox

If the console is experiencing overheating, try following this Two red lights on an original Xbox 360 console article.

One suggestion is to make sure the console is well ventilated.

Finding the best location will describe how to set console up for best usage.

If the console has been doing it for a while you can always check warranty status thru the
FAQ for xbox 360 warranties.

Based on the information you have provided; it seems like there may be a software issue causing your Xbox to shut off and display the overheating message. I recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps to see if they help resolve the issue.



Use or move your Xbox Console to another socket.

Try to move the console to another socket.

Or move the console to a new location and see if issue persists.

Try clearing the cache on your Xbox

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds until it turns off, unplugging the power cord from the back of the console, waiting 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in and turning it on.



Update Xbox Console.

Make sure your Xbox is up to date with the latest system updates for OS version: 10.0.25398.2538.

You can check for updates by going to Settings > System > Updates & downloads.



Factory reset your Xbox and keep all games and apps:

If the issue persists, you may want to try a factory reset of your Xbox.

This will erase all data and settings on your console, so be sure to back up any important data before proceeding.

To do a factory reset, go to Settings > System > Console info > Reset console > Reset and keep my games & apps.



If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware issue and you may need to contact our live support for further assistance.

Mine is cool at all times, if mine ever hot warm at this point id worry. Ive been keeping eye on it. I had a day or two that it was on all day between TV and gaming and was still cool when I felt the fan and side.
