Hearing game audio through headset or headphones

I just purchased a brand new Xbox One S and I was wondering how I could make the game audio play through my headset or headphones when I'm not in a chat party, instead of just putting sound out of the TV. Just last night I could hear game audio through headphones,
then I messed with a bunch of the audio settings to make my apple headphones work but that never played out so I went and bought a headset and now I can't hear game audio what so ever, help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Just got the new xbox one controller from UPS today with 3.5mm jack

When you use this controller with a headset/headphones, is the game audio preset to come through headset/headphones or just party chat....or both?

From the PS4 FAQ:

Will the DUALSHOCK 4 controller’s 3.5mm headset jack support other headsets or headphones?

The PS Vita system’s headset is fully supported. Some other third-party headsets may support basic audio and chat functionality on PS4, but Sony Computer Entertainment cannot guarantee it.

Is it possible to output all game audio through DUALSHOCK 4 controller’s 3.5mm headset jack?

Yes, you can select the Output to Headsets option to either ‘Chat Audio’ or “All Audio.”

When your headphones are plugged into the controller, open the Xbox guide (press the Xbox logo button on your controller), go to the "System" tab with RB, and select "Audio". From there, you will find various sliders for headset volume.

Hey there,

In order to hear game audio through headphones on the Xbox 360, you will need a headset that plugs into the RCA ports on the back of the console. Headsets through the controller will only pick up voice for party/game chat. Hope this helps!

It was turtle beach headphones . I found there was no sound when I went into settings then audio and the headset chat mixer slider was missing.if u put headphones on then take the jack out of port until u hear a crackling through headset it would work.but
I had to do this every time I turned xbox on.hence a fault with headphone jack port on both controllers

I can hear game volume through my TV, just not through my headset. I can hear party audio, just not game audio.

When using headphones go to audio options as you can select between having audio through tv, through headset or both and most headsets dont mute audio from your tv. So make sure you mute tv volume if you dont want to hear your tv. For other troubleshooting
