Headsets not working

Evening all.

New to Xbox and new to forums. Got an xbox one for Crimbo (well i am 48 so it is about time) along with a second controller and a pair of generic headsets. Headsets are plugged into controller via direct 3.5mm jack.

From Christmas until last night everything worked fine. Last night the headsets stopped working. Now, i only use one at a time and the only thing from before to after was that i refreshed the batteries (as in changed them) I have tried all of the following:

Changing controllers,

switching headsets,

Interswitching everything.

Checking headsets as normal earphones - ok

checking controllers with headphone earbuds - nothing

check for x box updates,

check for controller updates,

I have reconfigured the volume, sound etc and all to no avail. When the headsets are plugged into controller 1 they are seen as muted. When handset 1 is switched off and handset 2 is used as handset 1 (if you get me) then the x box sees that the headsets
are attached (either one that i use) and the headset image is displayed, but no sound - a current hum as though they are plugged in - but nothing, dead as a doodoo.

It doesn't matter what game i have installed.

I have trawled the forums and i can't find one solid fix and i think i have tried everything that i have found - but have i missed anything?

Any tips would be appreciated

It will only show up if you have a headset that is plugged in with a headset adapter. Means it works with turtle beach headsets and others like that. It won't work with the headset that comes with the xbox. If you buy a chatpad you get a other headset with
itthat one works too. Other then that the headset options don't show up with the standard headset. Hope that helps.

Will need some more info, what is the make and model of the headset

Has this worked the past.

Does the headset portion work correctly, in other words do you just have an issue with the mic.

Can you try another controller, or better yet try using the headset on a friends xbox or take it to gamestop

If the headset works on another controller then it may be an issue with the controller or console, if this headset does not work with another controller, then it may be an issue with the headset.

Not all headsets are supported with the xbox

Tried 2 different headsets one is an MS authorized chat headset. The first headset was working till about 3 weeks ago, it works fine on other devices. Definitely not a headset issue

They are all headsets for x box one and all the headsets have worked at some point. What i mean is the headset will work once then not work again and so on

BOught a stereo headset as well as a new controller. wouldn't you know- the old headset works fine with the new controller and the new headset doesn't work with old controller.
