    Headsets Not Working on Xbox One S Controllers


    Hi, we have 4 Xbox One S wireless controllers and headsets/headphones work in only 1 (one!) of them. The headsets used to work in all of them but over the last year they all stopped.

    Please don't suggest I power cycle our XBox or controllers - of course over the last year they have been power cycled, repeatedly. And factory reset. And updated (including controller firmware). And of course we've tried different headsets, headphones, switched
    controllers around, ensured the headset is on, the volume is up, verified the headset works in controller A but not controllers B, C or D... I've pulled one of these controllers apart to check the headphone jack is ok (it was). When i go into
    System > Settings > Devices & streaming >
    Accessories and look at the controller settings I can't select "Volume" so they appear not to be recognising that there's a headset plugged in.

    Microsoft make it incredibly difficult to get support and I'm on the edge of getting ridding of this Xbox and buying a PS4.

    Third party headsets are not banned, xbox is ok with whathever headphones or headsets you use in your controller, but is only for new xbox one controller like the xbox one s controller, for the older controller you need an adaptor, the keyboard expantion
    works with the 3.5 mm jack

    Yes the x11's will work with the xbox one with the headset adaptor, all it does is convert the 2.5mm input to the 3.5mm stereo input on the xbox one controller. Just make sure you update the xbox one controller.

    Hi ThomasBoghossian,

    I would recommend trying a pair of regular headphones with the controllers currently owned that do not work with the headset. If they work with the headphones, it could be an issue with the headset jack and xbox controller port not working together anymore.
    It could be due to an update or compatibility issue.

    If the headphones do not work with the controller then the controller needs to be replaced. If it is a first party controller, please contact support at

    Contact Us     to see if they are able to repair the controller(s).

    Purchased an Xbox One S in December with 2 controllers. After a few weeks the headsets (tried several models) stopped working. Tried all the troubleshoots as listed without any success.

    Controller which has been replaced under warranty has no issues (yet).
