Headset only working with USB connection to controller?

Been driving me mad, using a 3.5mm Turtle Beach headset and it was working fine up until 3 weeks ago. Now the headset will only work when the controller is connected to the Xbox with a USB cable.

Tried different controllers - same problem, even same problem with different headsets.

The Xbox is fully up to date and the controller(s) have the latest firmware.

Anyone got any idea what the problem could be?

Turtle Beach Atlas and Headset Adapter

Its not clear from that video but there is another that states the XB1 headset will connect to the controller, USB connection is for PC, 360 and PS4 via additional cable included in the box.Click to expand...

Yeah, I think on XB1 it'll work like the other new headsets in that it'll only have a wire from headset to controller. If you want to use it on other systems then you need the USB connection.

Headset not working

Xbox one headset not working, i can hear but the microphone is not sending signal when fully connected to the controller. Only works when I have it half connected.

I just power cycled the xbox, updated controller + headset, usb connection, doesn't work, kinect works fine.

Thanks for bringing this issue to us bud. This sounds like this could be an Operating System issue. We suggest a reset of the console with the controller and headset hard wired into the console, try these steps:

Soft Factory Reset
(while keeping games and apps)

IF AND ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IS MET:

There is a stable network connection.

The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)

Also try our
Headset Troubleshooter once the setup is complete. Give it a shot and let us know of any changes!

According to the user manual of the G935 headset, you connect the headset to the Xbox One controller via the headphone jack cable.

For wireless operation, the G935 uses the USB adapter that only works on PC. So on the console, you have the wireless connection between console and controller. But from controller to headset, you have a wired connection to the headset.

The wireless USB adapter that connects the headset to the PC doesn't work on the Xbox One.

Unfortunatly xbox does not support usb headsets. All headsets need to be connected by 3.5 jack to the controller. The only exception to this is if you purchase a wireless headset and then the dongle connects to the USB.

the original headset does not come with a 3.5mm jack but comes with a hardwired adapter that only plugs into the controller, no other way to connect it to the pc other than using a wired xbox controller or the wireless adapter with controller.

be better buying a one hear chat headset from turtle beach that has 3.5mm, or even better any usb headset as pc works with all including usb headsets.

If it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone Jack on a wired headset, any wireless one must say it’s for Dbox, whether it’s a dongle or connects directly. No USB headsets will work, only 3.5mm to the controller or approved wireless models.
