Headset not working

So, I just got done updating my Xbox and my headset isn't working. Ilol join a party and I can't get and sound, nor can they hear me. Any troubleshooting ideas?

Mic problems on my brand new Xbox One

my mic on my xbox one headset is not working ,i a new headset still not working..........come on fix it MS!

Thanks for the link xenomorph. After i followed it my headsets mute light started to flash. its still not working, but at least its doing something. I will probably give microsoft support a call and see what they tell me. Thanks again for the help.

A couple of ideas...

-update the controller

-test while controller is plugged in via USB

-(Worse case scenario) ONLY IF all games and apps are on an external HD - do a factory reset

DO NOT do a factory reset if games and apps aren't on an external HD just contact support first

Thank you for the feedback guys I just found a weird solution I removed my account from the controller to a guest then re assigned it..... Thanks again

Thanks for posting a potential solution to the issue, Ima69Killer; unfortunately, I can't quite seem to replicate your solution. Could you elaborate with a step-by-step so that I can see if this solution can apply to my issue?

Are you using two controllers to handle the account swapping between the main account and the guest? When I signed in as a guest and tried to swap back to my main account on a single controller, the Xbox threw and error and signed out my guest automatically
before I could do anything.

After the update, when the headset (original xbox one) was plugged in, it would not recognize the headset.

I had to go to settings and assign the controller to my account. Once the controller was assigned to me (it is originally unassigned), the headset worked like it did before.

Notes: I only have 1 xbox live account. I only have 1 controller. There has never been anyone else's account logged in on here. There has never been another controller linked to this xbox either.

It will only show up if you have a headset that is plugged in with a headset adapter. Means it works with turtle beach headsets and others like that. It won't work with the headset that comes with the xbox. If you buy a chatpad you get a other headset with
itthat one works too. Other then that the headset options don't show up with the standard headset. Hope that helps.

Will need some more info, what is the make and model of the headset

Has this worked the past.

Does the headset portion work correctly, in other words do you just have an issue with the mic.

Can you try another controller, or better yet try using the headset on a friends xbox or take it to gamestop

If the headset works on another controller then it may be an issue with the controller or console, if this headset does not work with another controller, then it may be an issue with the headset.

Not all headsets are supported with the xbox

Tried 2 different headsets one is an MS authorized chat headset. The first headset was working till about 3 weeks ago, it works fine on other devices. Definitely not a headset issue

They are all headsets for x box one and all the headsets have worked at some point. What i mean is the headset will work once then not work again and so on

BOught a stereo headset as well as a new controller. wouldn't you know- the old headset works fine with the new controller and the new headset doesn't work with old controller.

Problem- DEAD controller headset port.
