Headset not allowing gameplay

My xbox series s won't allow any gameplay sound out of the headphones . I've bought new headphones used different controllers nothing seems to be working after buying a new headset it started working for one night a right back to the issues. I can talk thru the mic hear others only when speaking. I've done everything I can find online like changing/ resetting audio,did a factory reboot and nothing is working do I replace the console or is there something I'm missing

Based on your description, you are unable to hear the gameplay through your headset however you can use it as a microphone. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

This could happen on a headset that is incompatible to Xbox console or settings for outputting sound is not on the headset. However, in your isolated case, we’d like to know more about it in details so that we can provide a more accurate resolution for you. To start, please provide us information/answer on the following questions:

May we ask for the make and model of your headset?
May we know if you can connect the headset to the Xbox Console wired to see if issue persist, then try if issue persist.
Is the issue happening on all games?
Can you connect your headset on phone or computer? Will you be able to hear the sound of your game?
How do you select the settings of your audio on Xbox Console?

Hello there,

So you are wondering if there is a headset available that can connect to the Xbox for gameplay audio, and also connect to another device for music audio? I'm not aware of such a headset being available, but I don't see it as impossible. For now, I can recommend
background music.

Xbox one has the
Background music feature to allow the use of certain music streaming apps, like Pandora and Spotify, to continue playing music during gameplay.

There are two types of headsets, a stereo headset. Two ear pieces allows both chat and game play. And a chat headset, one ear piece and as the name implies, only allows chat, will not carry game play

The chat headset (one ear piece) allows for game chat only but the stereo headset (two ear pieces) allow for both game sound and game chat.
