Headset mics not working

Hi guys, my son lost his mic boom (recon50x) and i bought a second hand headset (Steatlthx04) that came with 2 mic booms, now i knew there was an issue buying the headset as the guy said the mic jack had an intermittent fault. But plugging the new mic booms
into my recon50x there is still no sound picked up by the mic. I subsequently tried all the trouble shooting from Xbox support web pagea and tried different apps but still no joy.

I then tried both the headsets on my laptop and i was able to record video/audio and use skype with no issue on both of them.

can anyone offer any advice

Mic not working

My headset was working on my old controller but it died i plugged it into my new one and i can hear but my mics not working tried a few fixes but nothing's working any ideas

 

XBOne Stereo headset mic not working (all xbox mics unreliable)

This is so frustrating. My mom has bought me 3 headsets for my XBox to replace mics that stopped working before finally shelling out the big buck $60 for the XboxOne Stereo headset; hopefully to end the persistent problems with the mic breaking. Now
my mic on the XBoxOne Stereo headset just stopped working. None of the troubleshooting works to resolve the problem. I thought headsets with mics were simple technology, why can't Microsoft get right and durable enough to last. Or, is that the point...to
keep us pressuring our parents to buy these expensive headsets. Extremely Frustrated!!

 

Perform a hard reset EXACTLY like this.

Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

If that doesn't work try in on another controller to help isolate the issue.

tried all of that and even done a reset all info today, still no joy, probably going to have to buy another mic to see if it solves the issue.

 

Since you say the headset works on the laptop, can you check the following:

After making sure the microphone really works, plug it into the controller, and open up the messaging tab on the console.

Create a new message (since you don't actually send it, it doesn't matter to whom you write). Instead of writing the message, press the microphone button, and talk into the microphone.

Does the console pick up the microphone, and are you able to listen to the preview of your message?

If the microphone did not work, try a different controller, if possible.

Also, headsets with a 3.5 mm jack with those 3 rings on the plug have two standards, called OMTP and CTIA, where the microphone and ground contacts are reversed.

If the headset uses the OMTP standard, the controller is "listening" on the ground pin, and therefore the microphone won't work.

You can get a cheap OMTP to CTIA (or vice versa) adapter, that simply crosses these connectors.

Since only two connectors are exchanged, those adapter cables are usually dirt cheap, and you can get them online or in most phone stores. If you have to pay more than the price for a coffee to go for that cable, you're being ripped off.
