    Headset microphone not working for Xbox party chat/game chat


    Hi all!

    I’ve been having issues with my headset microphone for about a week now. Xbox support just hung up after being on hold forever, so I’m turning to Reddit for help.

    I have a wired headset connected to my PC. People in my party cannot hear me in Xbox party chats and game chats (BO6). However, it works fine in discord. I am able to hear everything fine. I feel like I have done everything: messing with the inputs/outputs, uninstalling/reinstalling the apps, updating my drivers. I have also noticed that on my game bar there’s 2 different Xbox sound adjusters. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

    My tech knowledge is pretty basic, so I’m hoping for some suggestions of other things I can try. TYIA!!

    Broken microphone

    The microphone does not work in any games nor does it work in party chats. The headset is the standard headset that comes with an xbox purchase.

    Astro A50's not working in party chat or game chat on Backwards Compatible games

    Does the headset work on Xbox One Party chat (i.e. do you see a circle around your gamerpic in the party chat on Xbox One)?

    Are only Backwards compatible games affected? If so, it might be that the Astro A50 base station acts as a USB microphone, which doesn't work as Chat microphone on the Xbox 360.

    You might have to contact the Astro A50 support for information on how to use that headset on backwards compatible titles.
    Yeah it works on the Xbox One party chat but yeah that's what i was thinking i might just have to get a old Xbox One chat headset for it to work.

    Try this:

    Check the Kinect microphone setting

    If you’re using the microphone in the Kinect sensor for chat, make sure no headsets are connected to your console (wired or wireless). Then, make sure the chat microphone on the Kinect sensor is on.

    To turn on the Kinect chat microphone:

    Sign into Xbox LIVE.

    Press the Guide button on your controller.

    Select Chat & IM.

    Make sure the Kinect microphone is set to On.

    Xbox mic not working

    So i have a turtle beach headset that work perfectly fine when im in an xbox party but will not work when i try to talk in game chat (fortnite). Does anyone know solutions or if i have to buy a new headset?
    If the mic works in party chat the issue is not the headset but the game itself. If you’re in Fortnite, go into the game settings and you’ll see audio options, you probably have your microphone muted in there.
