headset mic not working. I am at the end of my rope

I am the parent of 2 kids with xbox ones. They both have wireless white controllers. I have tried 4 different pairs of headphones with mics. The kind you plug the 3.5mm end into the controller and also into a usb outlet (to cut on the lights).

They work sometimes. About half the time they work and half the time they dont. All 4 headsets and both xboxes. For the people at xbox, this is very poorly designed.

I dont know what else to do. They will be working and then stop. Sometimes I switch it out to one of the other headsets and it starts working. Sometimes I reset the xbox and it will start back. Sometimes nothing will work. I have watched a ton of videos
and read a ton of stuff on it. I have gone through all the privacy sections and everything is ok. I have updated the controller. I have the sonic windows thing enabled. I have check all the plugs. The mics are one

I cant understand how it can sometimes work and sometimes not. And since this is happening with two consoles and 4 different headsets, it has to be a design issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a controller I can buy with a built in headset and mic to get around this convoluted mess? If I cant find a way to make this much easier on the parents, i am going to have to throw all this in the garbage and
see if Nintendo is any better

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with being able to use different headsets across different controllers and consoles.

If the troubleshooting you've attempted thus far hasn't panned out, then I'd recommend checking the headset(s) using a different device (phone, computer, etc) to see if you're able to hear/be heard using them.

Additionally, you can try using the
Xbox App and starting a party through there and see if that also works out, as trying this across multiple devices can shed some light on what is the cause of this.

If they're all working well with other devices, then you'll want to further troubleshoot your controller(s) and the headset using the solutions found in the following support articles:

If you do have access to a headset adapter, then that is also worth a try as others have used them successfully in the past when a controller isn't recognizing a headset.

To be honest, sounds like the cable has broken wires inside, usually happens at the jack end, wear n tear so to speak. Course that's assuming they been used a while. You say you've tried 4 headsets, are any of them new, or have you had them all a while?

As for other ways to get sound, I personally use a wireless turtle beach headset, and there are other products available too.

Is there ANY thing I would be able to try? The headset works just fine on my 3 other controllers. Im at the end of my rope over here I know I no longer have any warranty on my console or the controller

I tried it all. My mic doesn't work in Skype. I have two turtle beach headsets and they both don't work anymore. It's something to do xbox's end, not the headsets

Yes my kinect mic is enabled when i am using it and off when i am not. Its odd because my kinect mic works fine but my headsets do not
