    Headset hell

    I've tried everything....

Iv narrowed the issue down to my controller and believe it is a direct result of the latest Xbox update which was made on my machine 22nd Jan during night. The first time I used the Xbox and subsequently identified the issue was two days later. All firmware
is updated on controller. Other controllers woth including my headset function on the machine.

    What now?

    Cheers

    :)

There hasn't been an update for the Xbox One controller from what I've seen for awhile.

My Xbox controller has a 3.5mm jack and the firmware version is 2.3.2385.0

The firmware for the older controllers without the 3.5mm jack is a lower version number.

What's the headset you're trying to use?

Controller troubleshooting. If it's a software issue with the controller, this should help.

    1) Settings > Kinect and Devices > Devices and Accessories > More Options

    2) Select Firmware version, (even if it states no update available) and then choose Update Now.

    - When its done it should state no updates needed

    - Choose Close

    3) Choose More Options > Select Assigned to and re-assign your profile to your controller

    4) Buzz the controller. It should buzz. If it doesn't, either the feature is turned off or the batteries are low. Use new batteries and test again.

    5) Go back to Configure and choose Restore Original. This resets the controller back to defaults

    6) Pull the batteries out of the controller and leave them out until the Xbox has restarted from the step below

    7) Hard reset the Xbox - Hard reset the Xbox by holding down the power button on the front of the Xbox for 15 seconds. After the 15 seconds let go of the power button then restart the Xbox.

    8) Put batteries back in the controller

    9) Re-sync your Xbox One controller to refresh the connection back to the Xbox.

    - If you're not sure how - How to Sync an Xbox One Wireless Controller with Your Console

    10) With your headset plugged into the bottom of your controller

    - Hit the Xbox Button on your controller and instead of choosing settings, choose Audio

    - Make sure the Headset volume is all the way up

    11) Now test the headset and see if it's working.

Thanks for getting back to me. I has tried all those steps bit not all in the same sequence however unfortunately it didn't work and the 'mute Mic' icon remains.

    However I can see I have a newer firmware release than the one you mentioned in your post;

    3.1.1221.0

I've convinces myself this is the issue but I know you can't roll back updates once they are complete...

When my headset is not plugged into my controller, I too see the muted mic icon.

And when I plug my headset in, it changes to a headset icon.

It sounds as if the controller isn't detecting the headset connection.

Can you try your headset with an Android phone? The Android phones and Xbox One controllers use the same CTIA wiring standard.

What is the Make/Model of the headset you're trying to use?
