Headset Cutting Out | Xbox One S

There's a bit of backstory below in case it's relevant. About two weeks ago, I bought a new Xbox One S. White, with the white wireless controller. The HyperX Cloud Stinger headset I have, which is also new, usually works as expected. Every now and again,
though, it'll spit static for a fraction of a second and then give me no sound for ~30 seconds or so. Then another static spit and suddenly I have sound again. This happens roughly every 20 minutes.

Any troubleshooting tips you can offer will be appreciated! I do wonder if distance between the controller and the console might have something to do with it, but it's only about four feet of open air.

The history: I had a first-gen Xbox One that started having issues responding to the controller to power on. Once on, the controller did fine. I also had this issue with the headset, though, which eventually ended up with the headset just not working at
all. I returned and exchanged through four different headsets thinking they were the problem. If that many new-in-box headsets had the same issue, though, it had to be the console. Microsoft Support said it was likely the Bluetooth receiver in the console
having gone belly up. So here I am with all new everything and the same problem.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

    :)

Xbox One S audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution selected.

Issue: audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution is selected on Xbox One S only. If I drop it back down to 1080p, the audio cut out disappears. Note, the audio drop occurs on ANY content in any app, not just 4K.

    - happening on Xbox One S only obviously as the Xbox One non-S is not 4K capable

    - using official MS Xbox One S HDMI cable connected to a 2016 brand new LG TV where all HDMI ports support HDMI2/HDCP2.2, audio cuts out

    - tried a different HDMI cable, audio still cuts out

    - tried using optical cable connected to soundbar, audio still cuts out

    - adjusting down to 1080p eliminates issue (also eliminates the whole reason I bought the One S in the first place)

This is clearly an Xbox One issue, not my other equipment as verified by the above. The cables don't matter, using both TV and/or soundbar doesn't matter, the Xbox One S is creating the problem (and only if you select 4K resolution).

Xbox User fugettaboutit77 also reports this issue so this a clearly a thing. He has swapped out for a new Xbox One S and the issue persists.

Turtle Beach static / not working

OP just curious when your headset is getting static or cutting out, is your controller vibrating at the same time. If so then that is a known flaw with headsets such as the one you are using especially if you have the older controllers from when the Xbox
    One released.

If your Xbox One Stereo Headset isn’t functioning correctly, check the following:

    • Make sure your controller has fresh batteries. When the batteries get weak, some controller functions, such as audio and rumble, are turned off to conserve the remaining power.
    • Make sure your Headset Adapter is firmly plugged into your controller and that your Stereo Headset’s 3.5-mm cable is securely plugged into the Headset Adapter. You will know it’s plugged in properly if you press the mute button and the LED lights up.
    • Try your Xbox One Stereo Headset with another device, such as a laptop, to see if the headset is working. If not, the headset will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the
      Xbox Online Service Center .
    • Try your Stereo Headset and Stereo Headset Adapter on another controller, if you can. If the headset works on the second controller, try

      updating the first controller
again. If that fails, the controller will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the
      Xbox Online Service Center .

    Hey Anthony,

Thank you for reaching out! If you haven't already, test out your Hyper X headset on a different device. Just making sure the issue is 100% coming from somewhere in the console. I'd also suggest to perform a

    factory reset
on your console while keeping your games and apps by doing the following:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select All Settings.
    4. Select System.
    5. Select Console info & updates.
    6. Select Reset console.
This will fix software issues if there are any causing your headset to cut off. We hope to hear back from you soon, and if you notice something new pop up, let us know. Headset Cutting Out | Xbox One S :)

The issue is solved! I chatted with Microsoft Support yesterday about possible causes for the issue, and one suggestion I was given was to look for interference from other appliances or devices. This reminded me of the unused wifi range extender across
the room from my Xbox. I unplugged that and haven't had any problems since.
