Headphones sound problem

When I use my headphone than the sound do not work, but when I don't use my headphone

Then the sound works perfectly.

Hello, did you update your controller with the headphones plugged in? The sound problems of the headset are often related to this.

It's not the headphones. I'm getting the same problem with my Elite. I use both headphones (Astros) and my surround-sound room. At one point, the dolby signal gave out but I could fix it by going into the system settings, changing the sound output to
stereo, then back to dolby, and it worked fine. But now, it doesn't work any more and the only sound output I get is in stereo (regardless of if the sound is going through my headphones or my receiver). It's a problem with the Xbox360. I'm looking around
on the forums and I'm seeing a few other people reporting a similar issue, but I don't see any answers to the problem. Looks like I'll have to call Microsoft.

What I did with my XP510 was I went to turtle beach website connected the headphones to my computer and reset them to factory settings and it corrected the problem. Headphones that come with xbox only get sound when your playing on line and chatting with
someone otherwise you get no game sound through them. I had same problem sent the xbox back to be checked and they found no problem.

I have not been able to connect my headphones (3.5 mm jack) to the controller for several days. I tried with different headphones but nothing ... the same headphones on other devices work perfectly. Can it be a hardware problem or is it software? thanks
