Headphones and mic not working

Headphones and mic wont work, there is a microphone sign with a cross through on the screen. I have brought a new headset and they won't work as this sign will not go off.

Problem with my mic... Again!

Hi, I got the same problem with my mic twice. All working but now only the mic is not working, the headphone is ok (I hear everything in every mode), I make all update and everything but nothing work. Is that all headphones have the same problems? How can
I solve my problem without buying a headphone every 4 months?!

Others Cannot Hear Me on XBox One Headset

I bought both a standard mic, as a replacement, and a mic adapter, to use with my Beats 2 headphones. Neither are working (standard mic before and after controller update as a result of the mic adapter) on two separate controllers.

Plug the controller in to the console, then plug in the headset to the controller. Go to settings and accessoires, update controller it will update to accept the headset for use

Hello Natasha!

Sorry to hear about what you're dealing with.

If I were you, I would try all the troubleshooting on our support page
Xbox One Chat Headset troubleshooting and see if that helps.

If you still experience problems , you might need to try another controller or try what we call a soft reset

It's a reset of your console back to factory settings but one that does not uninstall any of your games or apps and is a really good troubleshooting step for most issues.

Just make sure that before you go ahead with it, that you do know all of the sign-in information for any/all of your accounts(asthey
will be removed) and have easy access to your internet network.

Also make sure that you select the option denoted
reset and keep my games and apps.

I have tried all these but I still get the microphone sign with a cross through it. A message also comes up 're are unable to find a microphone for these player's' when joining a team.

Hey there Natasha!

Have you tried other controllers?

If it doesn't work on any other controller, it could be a symptom of a deeper hardware issue. You might have to get a repair done on the console if that is the case.

You can get such a repair done by going to
device support or contacting
customer support directly.

Give another controller a shot and let us know if this information was helpful in resolution of your issue

The headphones will work but not the mic until they release an adapter.

Its built into the cord that i connect to the headphones but the cord didnt originally come with the headphones but the mic does work

How did you manage do use Kinect as mic while your headphones are connected to the controller? As soon as I plug in my headphones into the Stereo Headset Adapter my Kinect won't work as mic anymore... Strange thing is, this also happens if my headphones
don't have an integrated mic

The mic that’s on my headphones. I have bose and i tried apple and some others as well. Directly into the 3.5mm audio jack. Mic works on all headphones when plugged into my phone.

Thank you for coming to the forums today. I'd be happy to help you.

It's likely the 3.5 mm audio port on the controller is either dirty or damaged causing the audio or mic to not function properly after working at first for a bit.

We can try a few things to narrow the issue down to the controller or something else. First is a test to make sure the headphones themselves are not giving out, so just give them a test on a PC, laptop, mobile device, or other console with a 3.5 mm audio
port and make sure they work fine.

Then lets check on some indicators and icons on your dashboard and settings to see if it's even being recognized. Check the corner of your home screen or Xbox Guide menu for either a headset icon indicating it's connected or a muted icon indicating it's
not detected. If the icon shows muted check to see whether the icon remains whenever you have the headset plugged in or not.

Also go ahead and start an Xbox Live party chat and check what message shows when it connects you into the party. If the headset is not being detected it'll display a message reading "We were unable to detect a microphone for this person" and a warning symbol
next to it.

If you see these indicators and the headset works on other devices, then the issue more than likely stems from the audio port on the controller. If possible I would locate a second controller and try it on there to confirm the suspicion that the issue lies
with the controller port. The best workaround for issues with the audio port is to locate an Xbox One headset adapter or purchase a third party headset that comes with their own version of the headset adapter for Xbox One. It plugs into the USB looking port
directly at the bottom of the controller with the two slots for the prongs on the adapters.
